Hi people, may I delve into the world of , in the way he often takes us on a series in his blogs.🙂
This season, a number of Europe's more successful and/or wealthy clubs have already been eliminated from the Champions League and some have even suffered ignoble league forms alongside. I would attempt to do some investigation on the reasons behind their failings and what the future will likely hold for these European giants as a new season beckons.
Happy viewing.
CHELSEA
Last season: Finished Third place( 74 points, +43 goal differential) and eliminated by Real Madrid in the Champions League quarterfinals
This season: Currently about 12th place (potentially to finish with about 45 points, with a negative goal differential of at least 7) and eliminated by Real Madrid in the Champions League quarterfinals.
What a mess Chelsea has become really. That 3–1 loss to Arsenal in their own home continues this worrying and very embarrassing trend. They seem a side that have forgotten how to score. Yet I read a hidden meaning to what Lampard said below,

The second paragraph tells me there's an attitude problem within the squad. It's not as if the players are new to working hard, it is a certain discontentment that will make a player loose motivation to apply himself to the needed discipline of his craft.
If they don't get these things sorted out this season( which I think can't happen), then they would finish below mid-table.
Most obvious problem this season is goals. Their only fit striker for long periods was Aubameyang and erstwhile coach, Potter, lost confidence in him long ago, leaving Chelsea with no true striker. On the other hand,The Blues haven't been terrible with conceding goals– they allowed the fourth-fewest goals and fifth-lowest xG averages. Ofcourse, Chelsea have been better in this regard in previous season, but it shows conceding goals wasn't really the problem.
The problem is that before yesterday's match against Arsenal they were 14th in goals scored. Forwards Kai Havertz and Joao Felix, who are not real number 9's, have been repeatedly mired in dreadful finishing – they've combined for 11 goals from shots worth 18.44 xG this season. But even if we gift both of them with goals and they now have seven more goals between them, Chelsea would still only be 13th in scoring. The main problem has been the entire team's synergy in attack, goals should come in from others too.
Even when Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner were around and were suffering through their own issues in front of goal, Chelsea was still third in Premier League scoring last season; well it earned both players exits from the club (Werner permanently, Lukaku on loan) and Chelsea went ahead to spend market-redefining sums on a new team, and that team is averaging less than half the goals they had. Meanwhile Werner and Lukaku are banging in goals in Germany and Italy respectively. The Blues have fallen from fourth in shots per possession to ninth and from seventh in xG per shot to 15th.
Up next is RB Leipzig's Christopher Nkunku arriving this summer,he's a forward. This season alone, the club has added five players– including Raheem Sterling and the expensive Mykhaylo Mudryk, plus Felix on loan from Atletico. They still have Havertz, Christian Pulisic and Hakim Ziyech, all forwards. Seems very confusing.
For sure, this summer that squad will be trimmed down. Pochettino is said to want Lukaku back and wants Felix to stay to support Lukaku from behind. Pochettino? Yeah reliable reports reveal he's almost done with signing for Chelsea. I like the choice, especially as I think he'll be able to handle any discontentment in the squad with his man-management skills, plus he can build a strong team that can compete with the best.
