Football is a contact sport, so you would expect a lot of fast-paced action from all 22 players on the pitch as the ball moves from one end to the other. So it is quite easy to forget that patience can play a major factor in the game as well. That was the case in Arsenal's match against Everton today. The boys were in a patient form of maximising every opportunity they got in the game.
As an Arsenal fan, especially during this period, every Premier League match is a sensitive one. We are aiming for the league title, and everything is at stake for us more than ever. At every match, you can hear the roar of the haters waiting for our downfall to banter us on not being able to grab a Premier League title for a long time. It is more for fans because we are not going to stop until we attain glory, which I strongly believe that we are really close to this season. For the game against Everton, it was a dominant one, as it should be. Mikel Arteta maintains his attacking style and maintains the midfield ball control through the use of Declan Rice and a beautiful control from Bukayo Saka on the right wing.
On the other hand, Everton did not hold back when it came to frustrating the Gunners with the performance from their goalkeeper Jordan Pickford. In return, putting denial to a couple of attempts from Arsenal. This game had a long goal drought, while my heart kept on racing as our chance of winning the game got slimmer and slimmer. I was super worried when Everton was putting up a solid defensive resistance against Arsenal's attempt. The kind of defensive resistance that Chelsea could not present in their match against Newcastle. A match that took place at the same time as ours, but the results were different. My heart goes out to Chelsea fans because there is definitely something porous about their defence, from a 5-2 defeat against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League, and now a defeat to Newcastle from a goal that only happened minutes into the first half.
Well, back to Arsenal's game against Everton, Kai Havertz and Eberechi Eze were both denied opportunities to get on the scoresheet in the first half of the match. It was when my heart began to tear little by little as I could see Everton was not backing down without a fight in this match. It was not even over for my heart pains for the match, but I could feel my chest almost exploding when there was an opportunity for Everton to get a goal through the attempt from Dwight McNeil. In that moment, it was scary. This is because football can be pretty annoying despite how exciting it is and how it brings people together. In a moment of bad luck with all the ball possession, attacks, attempts and passes being in your team's favour, you could lose all that when the opposing side gets a winning goal.
The first half saw no goal, and it was almost the case for the second half until we finally got the opening 89 minutes, thanks to the combo from V. Gyökeres and P. Hincapié. The goal came from V. Gyökeres, and P. Hincapié gave the assist. The best part is that this was not enough for us, as we did it again during the added time. A goal from the 16 year old M. Dowman capped the victory and That was what it took to get the win for the team, and now you see why I say it was a game of patience, as the win only came at the end of the match.
