The High Point Rockers took on the power again in game 2 and the rockers were able to shut off the power. The Rockers won the game 3 - 7.
Some interesting plays and especially one that i never seen before. Top of the 2nd Ben Farias is at bat. He hit the ball to Short Stop Giovani who catches it which resulted in an out. Instead of throwing it back to the pitcher quickly to officially finish the play he throws it to 2nd forgetting there was a guy on third. Rymer Liriano runs for home and the 2nd baseman threw to home and the catcher catches it. The umpire started to call out and then quickly changed to safe! Head coach Jamie Keefe comes out of the dugout starting to contest the call but then goes back in without a fight. Most of the audience including me was confused.
I asked Joe Hennessey after the game what happened. I told joe that it felt like once the umpire called out after the catch the play was over but Joe told me the play was still legal and Giovani knew he was on third and still playfully threw the ball to 2nd which is a normal thing they do after a catch. They normally catch the ball, throw to 2nd, throw to 1st and then back to the pitcher. That was mainly an error on Giovani.
Meanwhile in the bottom of the 3rd Steven Cardullo gets a 3 run homerun which started the process of the rockers getting runs in the game. Steward Levy gets 3 RBI's this game. JR gets one RBI.
The rockers play west virginia one more time and then the 1st half of the season is over! Even if rockers win they lost the chance to lock in the playoff with the Lexington Legends able to lock in their chance into the playoffs. The rocker need to win a lot in the 2nd half of the season which starts Tuesday when they go against the Legends at Lexington for 3 game and then The rockers have 12 games at home starting with the Long Island Ducks next weekend.
Starting Monday the new pitching rules come to effect. The mound is to be pull back 1 1/2 feet which may not feel like a lot but the MLB wants to test this out so that is what the ALBP is all about which is testing things. Looking forward to seeing how this plays out. Since the rockers won't be back till next weekend I won't personally be able to see the difference yet but i will keep yall posted once the rockers are back home next weekend.
