I haven't been very secretive about my disdain for all Philly teams and for the fans out there of Philly - and i know at least one of you will read this - I mean no offense to any of you, but my dislike for all-teams-Philly isn't based on nothing or any sort of regional conflict, it is because of the violent nature of the Philly fans what while it has calmed down a lot in recent years, was getting pretty bad at one point and well, people don't forget.
It was because of one day when a friend of mine was badly injured by a Philly fan that was throwing full cans of beer into a group of tailgating home fans that I knew that my loathing of their fans was going to remain forever. My buddy had to have reconstructive surgery because of this and what was his crime? Supporting another team.
I'll leave it at that because the thought of that entire ordeal just makes me angry but even though I almost never watch NHL, i tuned in at the end of the most recent game when I saw that Carolina was up 3 games to 0 and with a single goal they would send the Flyers to the end of their season and the icing on the cake was that the game was taking place in Philly.
I didn't have to wait for very long because Carolina was controlling the pace of play. I don't watch ice hockey because until the replay happens I can't really tell where the puck is most of the time anyway. It truly is an amazing sport and I feel like those athletes are amazing as well as probably some of the toughest mofos on the planet.
I would be willing to bet that there were not many people in attendance that were wearing Carolina gear, unless they had box seats and a lot of security around them.
Now the Hurricanes will advance to play against either Buffalo or Montreal and I will not watch a single minute of those games because I don't enjoy watching ice-hockey, I just enjoy watching Philadelphia lose.
Speaking of which, the New York Knicks, who I also don't particularly care for because of again, the attitude of their fans, are about to probably eliminate the 76ers from the NBA playoffs as well. NY landed their 3rd straight victory against Philly and it is a near certainty that they will finish them off in the coming week.
I had previously mentioned that coming back from 3-1 to win in an NBA tournament only happens a small percentage amount of time and that was under 5% of the time. But this tournament we have seen this happen twice and one of them was when Philly eliminated my Celtics in precisely that manner. While I would prefer to not have revenge administered by the New York Knicks, my two favorite NBA teams are the Boston Celtics and whoever happens to be playing against Philly.
While coming back from 3-1 is incredibly rare the amount of times that a team has come back from being down 3-0 is much lower. It is precisely 0% of the time, in fact. In the entire history of the NBA teams that were up 3-0 have won that portion of the tournament 159 times out of 159.
So it would take a relative miracle for the 76ers to pull off a turnaround at this point.
At the moment the bookies have basically guaranteed that we are going to have a Detroit vs OKC final, and that would be just fine with me as I don't really have a favorite between either one of those teams. There is a little bit of animosity remaining from the Bad Boys Pistons time in the 80's, but I think I can let that go.
Even though I didn't really care about much of the sports that were taking place tonight, I did revel in Philly losing both games they were involved in.
