I was never going to tune into the two day event that was Wrestlemania but by gawd (Jim Ross voice) a lot of people did. The crazy amount of money that people spend in order to go to these sorts of things is pretty nuts to me but I bet it really is a lot of fun to be there with the massive soundsystems and the pyrotechnical dislpays.
I did read over what went down at Wrestlemania and I at least knew who most of the people were other than the women. I don't really think that the women's division is as popular as they make it out to be. This I think is some sort of PC something or other that they feel they have to do. In the past and when I thought WWE/WWF was in their glory days, the women were just kind of cartoon characters of sexuality and while I can get why some feminists out there might have a problem with this I don't think that very man (if any) women wrestling fans had an issue with it.
That being said though, there is this one woman wrestler I know named Paige and there is a pretty fantastic film about her life and how she wanted to be a wrestler, was pushed down and told to go away over and over again and then through refusing to give up she eventually became the biggest female wrestling star in the world. It is called Fighting with my Family and I highly suggest you check it out. You don't have to enjoy or even appreciate wrestling to enjoy that movie.
Apparently Roman Reigns won a belt of some sort but here is a little personal opinion about RR. I've never liked him. I think the WWE has been trying to push this guy for a very long time but the fans don't seem to really like him either. They have tried to affiliate him with "The Rock" they have had guest stars promote him, the basically were trying to force people to become fans of him but despite the fact that he does everything he can to look like Jason Momoa, I just find him really basic.
There is one guy that is a really big deal in WWE and that is Brock Lesnar
You can't argue with the fact that this guy is a genuine genetic mutant. He is not only huge and very strong, but he is a genuine real wrestling champion, he was the world heavyweight champion in UFC back when the heavyweight division was at its peak, and from the interviews I have seen with the guy he is a genuinely nice person and a fantastic father. He also is quite introverted.
I think it was time for him to retire and that is exactly what he did at Wrestlemania 42
It was genuinely touching to see him take off his boots and gloves and leave them in the ring and have an embrace with long-time friend and hype-man Paul Heyman, who did almost all of the microphone work for Brock because that was the only thing his game was kind of lacking. For as wonderful as he was at every other aspect of fighting, his mic skills just weren't very good. But they made it work out because there aren't exactly a ton of 350 lb massive muscular dudes to choose from out there.
Brock will be a legend in the sport (and UFC too if you ask me) forever. His departure from WWE is yet another blow to them as they seem to be kind of struggling to get any new talent to "stick" as far as the fans are concerned. They keep bringing back old talent but the new blood for the most part is so irrelevant that I don't even know who any of these guys are.
No matter though I guess. WWE is one of the most profitable sports leagues in the world, and it isn't even a real sport.
Did you see it, are you a fan? Do you have any favorites... do you know who Brock Lesnar is? lol
