Form Guide
Two teams in this match both desperate for a win! While the Stars are pretty much assured of finishing the round robin portion of the tournament in top spot they will be acutely aware that now is not the time to lose form and momentum. Back to back defeats against their closest rivals the Sydney Sixers and Adelaide Strikers might just have forced a re-think by those in charge and with the return of the likes of Nathan Coulter-Nile and Peter Handscomb from international duty, the Stars do have the strength and depth in their squad to chop and change.
As for the Heat, their shambolic run of form continues and they were indebted in their last match to some lower order hitting from James Pattinson that at least ensured they weren't bowled out for the 3rd consecutive game in a row. We saw once more against the Sixers that they struggle when faced with slow bowlers and with the way the Stars have been shaping up on a slow MCG wicket with long square boundaries they should expect to face at least 10 overs of spin in this game too. AB de Villers, arguably the greatest white-ball cricketer of his generation looks a shadow of his former self and if you were RCB then you'd be hoping that he spends the next couple of months prior to the IPL either in the gym or the nets as he looks woefully short of form and fitness.
I guess the only hope here for the Heat is that they only know one way to play and much like the wounded tiger now that they've been backed into a corner they might be at their most dangerous. Still, I would expect that if the Stars bat first they will see their way to a competitive score before strangling the life out of Heat batsmen. If the Heat bat first, well it could go one of two ways but on current form it's difficult to see how they'll come out on top of this one.
