A very sad night it was for most, if not all of Cristiano Ronaldo's fans as both his current club (Juventus) and old teammates (Real Madrid) were eliminated from the Uefa Champions league.
Cr7 himself was in the starting lineup once again as his present club, Juventus played against Lyon in the second leg of their Uefa Champions league round of 16 tie. As expected, Ronaldo was in top form as he got both goals for Juventus in their 2-1 win tonight. But sadly, those two goals weren't enough to take Juventus further in the competition. Lyon had won 1-0 in the first leg at home in France and tonight they got an away goal which turned out to be the deciding factor in that fixture. 2-2 the overall scoreline but Lyon would progress thanks to the away goals rule.
Real Madrid on the other hand took on Man City in the second leg tie at the Ethihad stadium in England. Unforunately for the record champions, their experience was not enough to overcome Pep Guardiola's men. City won 2-1, just the same scoreline as it had been in the reverse fixture back in February. Karim Benzema got the goal for Real but Gabriel Jesus' assist for Raheem Sterling and his eventual match winner was enough to seal a famous victory for the Citizens. 4-2 the overall scoreline and Man City would progress to the quarter finals stage.
All attention would now be turned to Barcelona and Bayern Munich who would take on Napoli and Chelsea respectively in their second leg ties tomorrow. Quite a lot to look forward to and of course the first leg results could turn out to be key factors as we saw in both of today's fixtures.
