Some time ago, I had a mishap with my vehicle's air conditioning. Although I don’t use it very often, there are times when it’s absolutely necessary—especially when it rains. The windshield fogs up heavily on the inside, and it can only be cleared with the help of the AC. On one of those occasions, while moving the air direction selector to point it toward the windshield, it got stuck in that position, and I couldn't switch it back to blow toward the cabin.
DIY - Reparando el selector de flujo de aire atascado en el tablero de mi carro
Hace algún tiempo tuve un percance con el aire acondicionado del vehículo. Aunque no lo uso muy seguido, hay momentos donde es necesario, en especial cuando llueve, el vidrio del para brisas se empaña mucho por dentro, y solo con la ayuda del aire se puede desempeñar. En una de esas ocasiones, moviendo el selector de la dirección del viento, para dirigirlo hacia el parabrisas, este quedo atascado en esa posición y no pude colocarlo de nuevo soplando hacia el habitaculo.
Finally, I set out today to solve this problem. To do it, I had to disassemble a good part of the dashboard. First, there is a small storage compartment at the top; you remove two screws, and it’s easy to pull out. Then comes the central air vent section, which includes the hazard lights button. This is the hardest part; it’s held by four clips and two screws at the top. Unfortunately, while applying pressure, it broke after many years of exposure to the sun. I had to reconstruct it.
Finalmente me propuse hoy a solucionar este problema. Para hacerlo tenía que desmontar buena parte del tablero. Primero en la parte superior hay un pequeño compartimiento para colocar cosas, se quitan dos tornillos y es fácil retirarlo. Luego la parte de los dispensadores de aire centrales que les acompaña el botón de las luces de emergencia. Este es el más difícil, está sujeto con cuatro grapas y dos tornillos por arriba, lamentable haciendo presión se rompió tras muchos años de recibiros rayos del sol, así que me tocó reconstruirlo.
The next step to get more space was removing the radio and CD player. To do this, you have to remove four screws (two on top and two on the bottom) using a 10mm socket. Then, you disconnect the power cable, audio output, and the antenna. One detail I almost overlooked: to remove the bottom screws, you must first remove the AC control panel, as it covers them.
Lo siguiente para conseguir más espacio es desmontar el reproductor de CD y radio. Para hacerlo hay que quitar 4 tornillos, dos arriba y dos abajo con un dado de 10 mm. Luego se desconta el cable de alimentación y salida de audio, también el de la antena. Un detalle que casi paso por alto, es que para poder quitar los tornillos de abajo, es necesario primero quitar el panel de los controles del aire acondicionado, ya que este los cubre.
That’s how I gained enough space to see the cable connected to the airflow selector and the blend door actuator inside the dash. I noticed that the reason I couldn't move the selector was that the plastic housing had slipped out of its retainer. Therefore, the entire cable was moving instead of just the inner wire, which is responsible for moving the actuator.
Así fue como conseguí más espacio y pude ver el cable o guaya que se conecta al selector de la posición de soplado del aire, con el actuador de compuertas dentro del tablero. Note que la razón de no poder mover el selector, es que el cobertor plástico se salio del sujetador, por lo tanto este se movía completo y no el alambre que lleva dentro, el cual es responsable de mover el actuador de compuertas.
I released the position control clip and repositioned the cable to secure it properly. I tested if the airflow could be changed now, and it worked perfectly. All that was left was to put everything back together, though with the unfortunate consequence that the dashboard now shows marks from the cracks. At least the air conditioning is working properly again!
Solté el clip de control de posición y reubiqie el cable para sujetarlo debidamente. Probé si ahora se podía cambiar el flujo del aire, y funcionó perfecto. Solo resto volver armar todo, aunque con la lamentable consecuencia de que el tablero ahora se ve con las marcas de las rupturas, pero con el aire acondicionado funcionando debidamente.
