Some time ago, I posted about replacing all four door handles on my car. Luckily, the parts are still available even though it’s a 2012 model; I know plenty of people with cars where finding these kinds of spares is next to impossible.
Optimización del mecanismo de apertura - Más allá del simple cambio de manilla
Tiempo atrás publique sobre el cambio de las 4 manillas de las puertas de mi carro. Por fortuna es un repuesto que se puede conseguir aún, a pesar de ser un carro del 2012, ya que se de muchos vehículos a los cuales es imposible encontrarle repuestos de este tipo.
It hasn't even been a year since I replaced them, and I’ve already had two break on me. The first time, I patched it up with some glue, but this time around, I decided to put in the effort to install a brand-new one. I did add a little twist, though: I made sure to grease the entire lock mechanism and calibrate everything as precisely as possible to avoid putting any strain on the new handle, hoping it’ll last longer.
Pero no ha pasado un año desde que las cambie y ya he tenido dos episodios donde se rompen. La primera vez lo repare con pegamento, pero está segunda vez decidí hacer el esfuerzo de colocar una nueva, pero con una variante, me asegure de aceitar todo el mecanismo de la cerradura, calibrar todo lo mejor posible para evitar forzar la nueva manilla y dure más tiempo.
This particular handle is for the rear left door (from the perspective of someone facing the car). Since that’s the door my kids use to get in, you can probably imagine why it didn’t last very long. They aren’t exactly gentle when they open it, and they even slam it shut, but they’re young—you constantly have to remind them.
Está manilla corresponde a la puerta trasera izquierda, si ves el vehículo de frente. Al ser una de las puertas que por la que mis hijos se suben al carro, comprenderán el porque no duro tanto tiempo, ellos no abren con cuidado la puerta, incluso cuando la cierra lo hacen muy fuerte, pero son jóvenes y siempre hay que recordarles las cosas.
Switching it out was a routine and relatively quick fix. I repaired the original ones so many times before finally replacing them that I know the process by heart now; I know every single inch of the inside of that door.
Hacer el cambio fue un proceso de rutina y relativamente rápido. Reparé tantas veces las originales y luego las cambie, que ya se de memoria todo lo que tengo que hacer, conozco cada centímetro de la parte interna de la puerta.
The only part that makes the job take about an hour is having to disconnect all the linkages for the lock mechanism just to get to the bolt that secures the handle from behind. It’s the only way to reach it.
Lo único que hace que el proceso trade una hora aproximadamente, es tener que desajustar todo el varillaje del mecanismo de la cerradura, para poder acceder al tornillo que sujeta la manilla en la parte posterior, ya que es la Unica manera de alcanzarlo.
In the end, the whole process took me about two hours because, like I said, I oiled everything and adjusted the length of the internal rods to make the action smoother. My goal was to make it easy for my kids to open the door without having to struggle, hopefully guaranteeing that this new handle stays in one piece for a while.
Al final el proceso me tomo unas dos horas, ya que como dije al principio, aceite todo y ajuste la longitud de las varillas de mecanismo interno, a fin de que fuera más suave y mis hijos cuando abran la puerta, no se les dificulte y lo hagan con facilidad, buscando garantizar la durabilidad de esta nueva manilla.
