The day I heard Eli talk about this initiative, I thought: I have a lot to tell because my life, in one way or another, has always been linked to engines. Much of this I think I already talked about at some point in my presentation, but now I will focus exclusively on my experience in the automotive world.
I learned to drive when I was 12 years old in a Ford Conquistador, we lived about 15 or 20 minutes from the center of town and my dad considered that if there was an emergency that forced us to go to town, and he was not there at the time, I should be able to deal with that situation. He was very strict with me, to the point that he taught me first to back up and park in reverse, something I always thanked him for. Nowadays, I compete with many people doing it and I win hahaha.
I remember that every Sunday, when I was a young girl when he dedicated himself to tune his car and make the pertinent mechanical revisions, he would put me to accelerate, turn on, turn off, make the changes, etc. I was his assistant.
El día que escuché a Eli hablar de esta iniciativa, pensé: tengo mucho que contar porque mi vida, de una forma u otra, siempre ha estado ligada a los motores. Mucho de esto creo que ya lo comenté en algún momento en mi presentación, pero ahora lo haré enfocada exclusivamente en mi experiencia en el mundo automotriz.
Aprendí a conducir a los 12 años en un Ford Conquistador, vivíamos a unos 15 ó 20 minutos del centro del pueblo y mi papá consideraba que, si se llegase a presentar alguna emergencia que nos obligase a ir hasta el pueblo, y él no estaba en ese momento, yo debía estar en la capacidad de atender esa situación. Fue muy estricto conmigo, al punto que me enseñó primero a retroceder y a estacionarme en reversa, cosa que siempre le agradecí. Hoy por hoy, me careo con muchos haciéndolo y salgo airosa jajaja
Recuerdo que cada domingo, siendo yo una jovencita, cuando él se dedicaba a entonar su carro y hacer las revisiones mecánicas pertinentes, me ponía a mí a acelerar, prender, apagar, hacer los cambios, etc. era su ayudante.
Over the years, after graduating as an engineer, I was hired at a car dealership to take care of the systems and IT area. Soon they merged the planning and systems area to put me in charge of that management and get me fully involved with the heart of the dealership, the purchase and sale of vehicles, which since then (about 15 years ago) until today is my main business area.
Con los años, ya graduada de ingeniero me contrataron en un concesionario de vehículos para atender el área de sistemas e informática, muy pronto fusionaron el área de planificación y sistemas para ponerme al frente de esa gerencia e involucrarme de lleno con el corazón del concesionario, la compra y venta de vehículos, lo que desde entonces (hace unos 15 años) hasta el día de hoy es mi principal área commercial.
Being in charge of sales management, I not only had direct contact with potential customers, but also with insurance companies and of course with banks. But behind all that magical process of delivering a vehicle to the final customer, there is a whole process: planning, purchasing, inspection - PDI, etc., and after that, an even more wonderful world, after-sales, technical service, auto parts, accessories, brass and paint, etc.
Estando al frente de la gerencia de ventas, no solo tenía contacto directo con los clientes potenciales, sino también con las compañías aseguradoras y por su puesto con la banca. Pero detrás de todo ese mágico proceso de entregar un vehículo al cliente final, hay toda una maquinaria: planificación, compras, alistamiento - PDI, etc., y después de eso, un mundo aún más maravilloso, la postventa, servicio técnico, autopartes, accesorios, latonería y pintura, etc.
About three years later, and in the middle of the automotive boom in the country, I left the dealership to go to private banking to head the management of consumer banking, where I was in charge of managing the commercial activity between the financial sector and the automotive sector. Unfortunately, two years later, the banking sector would receive a blow from the national executive and the regional financial entity for which I worked did not escape the effects of the expropriation, or nationalization of the banking sector, as it was called.
Unos tres años después, y en pleno boom automotriz en el país, dejaba el concesionario para irme a la banca privada al frente de la gerencia de banca al consumo, allí me encargaría precisamente de gestionar la actividad comercial entre el sector financiero y el automotriz. Lamentablemente, dos años más tarde la banca recibiría una estocada por parte del ejecutivo nacional y la entidad financiera regional para la que laboraba no escapó de las garras de la expropiación, o nacionalización de la banca como se le quiso llamar.
I returned again to the dealership, with more experience than before, there in almost a decade I finished polishing myself as we say colloquially, I was again in sales management until the automotive market in Venezuela began to decline, from there I went to the after sales management, in charge of the parts, warranties, service, brass and paint departments. Each at different times, but always linked to each other. At the end of 2016 we added vehicle rental to our activities, another parallel world of great demand, but of many satisfactions.
Regresé nuevamente al concesionario, con más experiencia que antes, allí en casi una década terminé de pulirme como decimos coloquialmente, estuve nuevamente en la gerencia de ventas hasta que el mercado automotriz en Venezuela comenzó a decaer, de allí pasé a la gerencia de postventa, al frente de los departamentos de repuestos, garantías, servicios, latonería y pintura. Cada uno en distintos momentos, pero siempre vinculados unos a otros. A finales del 2016 sumamos a nuestras actividades el alquiler de vehículos, otro mundo paralelo de gran exigencia, pero de muchas satisfacciones.
Independent of my position, I went from receiving a stork truck with my work team, making a PDI, to handing over the keys of a vehicle to its new owner; from doing a check in to give entrance to the workshop to a check out to finish a job; from placing an order in the parts catalog to a physical inventory of stock verification, even traveling for hours to go to recover a vehicle or provide technical assistance with the personnel in charge, in short, I know each and every one of the processes, those that are executed from the comfort of the office, to those that are performed directly in the field, so in heels or boots, as far as vehicles are concerned, I am all-terrain.
Independiente de mi cargo, pasé desde recibir un camión cigüeña con mi equipo de trabajo, hacer un PDI, a entregar las llaves de un vehículo a su nuevo dueño; de hacer un check in para dar ingreso al taller a un check out para culminar un trabajo; desde hacer un pedido en el catálogo de partes hasta un inventario físico de verificación de existencia, incluso viajar durante horas para ir a recuperar un vehículo o brindar asistencia técnica con el personal encargado, en fin, me conozco todos y cada uno de los procesos, los que se ejecutan desde la comodidad de la oficina, hasta los que se realizan directamente en campo, así que en tacones o en botas, en lo que a vehículos se refiere, soy todo terreno.
Finally, in 2018 in the face of the depressed sector, I decided to retire and start my business independently, always linked to the automotive sector, so I feel it is part of my world and my passion.
Finalmente, en el año 2018 ante lo deprimido del sector, decidí retirarme y emprender de manera independiente, siempre vinculada al sector automotriz, por lo que siento que es parte de mi mundo y mi pasión.
