Nos encontramos una vez más en este sitio para compartirles una reparación que le tuve que realizar a mi eqipo de aire acondicionado de 18000 btu, ya que en este tiempo tan caluroso nos hacia mucha falta para refrescar la sala de mi casa.

In the living room of my house we have installed for several years, an air conditioning console Jisco brand with a capacity of 18000 BTU, which had already several weeks without working and I imagined that had gas leakage problems, because it turned on but not cooled.

En el recibo o sala de mi casa tenemos instalado desde hace ya varios años, una cónsola de aire acondicionado marca Jisco con capacidad de 18000 BTU, que tenía ya varias semanas sin funcionar y que yo me imaginaba que tenía problemas de fuga de gas,porque encendía pero no enfriaba.

When we were able to raise the money for the repair, we called the technician to check it and give us a diagnosis and estimate. The first thing he verified when he arrived was that the compressor was not starting and they went up to the roof to proceed with the respective review.

When they uncovered the compressor housing, they realized that the part where the wires are connected was quite corroded and that caused bad electrical contact, and therefore, prevented the passage of current to the compressor which made it impossible to start.

Cuando pudimos reunir el dinero para la reparación, llamamos al técnico para que lo revisara y nos hiciera el diagnóstico y el presupuesto. Lo primero que verificó al llegar fue que el compresor no estaba arrancando y subieron a la azotea para proceder a su respectiva revisión.
Al destapar la carcaza del compresor, se dieron cuenta que la pieza donde se conectan los cables estaba bastante corroída y eso ocasionaba mal contacto eléctrico, y por ende, impidía el paso de corriente al compresor lo que hacía imposible su arranque.

In addition, the capacitor needed to be replaced and was missing a pound and a half of gas. Likewise, when checking the console they noticed that the engine was very slow due to problems with the starter capacitor and it was also necessary to change it.

I went out in my car with the technician to buy what was needed for the repair, namely the starter capacitor for the console and the compressor and a pound and a half of Freon 22 gas.

Además había que reemplazar el capacitor y le faltaba kilo y medio de gas. De igual manera, al revisar la cónsola notaron que el motor estaba muy lento debido a prblemas con elcapacitor de arranque y también era necesario cambiarlo.
Salí en mi carro con el técnico a comprar lo necesario para la reparación, a saber capacitor de arranque de la cónsola y del compresor y kilo y medio de gas freón 22.

Already with the material, the technician proceeded to replace the starting capacitors of both the compressor and the console and to fill the compressor with gas with the help of the pressure gauges.

When the equipment was turned on, we noticed the difference: the console was blowing harder and the cold air was coming out. We let it cool down for a while and then proceeded to close each unit again.

Ya con el material, el técnico procedió a reemplazar los capacitores de arranque tanto del compresor, como de la cónsola y a llenar de gas el compresor con la ayuda de los manómetros.
Al encender el equipo se notó la diferencia: la cónsola soplaba con más fuerza y salía el aire frío. Lo dejamos que enfriara un buen rato y luego procedió a cerrar nuevamente cada equipo.

The cost of the materials was almost $20 and the labor was $35, so the whole job came out to $55. I cancelled the technician's job and he left.

Unfortunately, a few minutes later the power failed for several hours and the equipment was on. When we had power again we turned on the air with the remote control and the equipment turned on but did not allow me to change the temperature much less turn it off. I immediately called the technician to return the next day to check the reason for this malfunction.

The weekend passed and on Monday the technician finally came. He verified that the control was not working properly and said it was the remote control. He cleaned the control and it was fine, but we realized that the compressor would not start.

When we went up and checked the other problem: the compressor head, which was corroded, was leaking gas and they used glue to seal it. Of course it is not a permanent solution, but the other alternative is to buy a new compressor whose cost is over $150. So it will have to have faith that this warm water handkerchief works while the resources are obtained for new equipment, because I prefer to change the equipment before buying only the compressor.

El costo de los materiales fue de casi 20 dólares y la mano de obra fue de 35, es decir todo el trabajo salió en 55 dólares. Le cancelé su trbajo al técnico y se marchó.
Lamentablemente a los pocos minutos falló el servicio de luz por varias horas y el equipo estaba encendido. Cuando tuvimos luz nuevamente encendimos el aire con el control remoto y el equipo encendió pero no me permitió modificar la temperatura ni mucho menos apagarlo. Enseguida llamé al técnico para que volviera al dia siguiente a revisar el motivo de este desperfecto
Pasó el fin de semana y el lunes por fin pudo venir el técnico. Verificó que el control no funcionaba bien y dijo que era el control remoto. Le hizo una limpieza al control y quedó bien, pero nos dimos cuenta que el compresor no arrancaba.
Al subir y revisar vino el otro problema: la cabeza del compresor que estaba corroida presentaba fuga de gas y para sellarlo usaron pegamento. Claro no es una solución permanente, pero la otra alternativa es comprar un nuevo compresor cuyo costo está por encima de los 150$. Así que tocará tener fe para que ese pañito de agua tibia funcione mientras se consiguen los recursos para un nuevo equipo, porque prefiero cambiar el equipo antes de comprar solo el compresor.

So much for this story for the moment, with the recommendation to do maintenance to their air conditioners every 6 months and be aware of any unusual sound to avoid further damage.
