There are material things that make our lives easier and on which many times, because of that comfort, we become dependent. Having a means of transportation (vehicle) in today's time and more so in countries like Venezuela, where public transportation is in complete chaos, is a great advantage and most of the time, a great blessing that is very much appreciated by those who enjoy it.

In recent times, acquiring a new vehicle has become inaccessible and many times, impossible. That is why always when our vehicle fails for any reason, the immediate or urgent thing to do is to fix it. Mechanical repairs are still the most viable option because, despite the cost, they are more affordable than buying a new car.

My car is a 2008 Hyundai Getz, and because of its long history, of course, I have always corrected faults that have occurred during that time of use. When the engine was made to my vehicle, about two years ago, a new fuel pump was placed at that time, well, the car was, before that, not running for about three years.

At that time, some important parts were replaced, with the purpose of course, that after the new engine was installed, the car would have optimal performance. In my country (Venezuela), the gasoline supplied at service stations is not of the best quality, as a result of the many problems that have been occurring in the country in recent years.

That is why this type of component is usually damaged with the passage of time and factors such as the one I just mentioned, having to be replaced to ensure the proper functioning of the car.

Hay cosas materiales que nos facilitan la vida y de las cuales muchas veces, por esa comodidad, nos hacemos dependientes. Tener un medio de traslado (vehículo) en el tiempo actual y más en países como Venezuela, dónde el transporte público es un completo caos, es una gran ventaja y la mayoría de las veces, una gran bendición que es muy apreciada por quienes gozan de ella.

En los últimos tiempos, adquirir un vehículo nuevo se ha vuelto algo inaccesible y muchas veces, imposible. Es por eso que siempre, cuando nuestro vehículo falla por alguna razón, lo inmediato o urgente es arreglarlo. Los arreglos mecánicos siguen siendo la opción más viable pues muy a pesar del costo, son más accesibles que comprar un nuevo automóvil.

Mi carro es un Hyundai Getz del año 2008, y por su larga data, por supuesto, siempre le he corregido fallas que se le han presentado a lo largo de ese tiempo de uso. Cuando se le hizo el motor a mi vehículo, hace dos años aproximadamente, se le colocó una bomba de combustible nueva en aquel entonces, pues, el carro estuvo, antes de eso, sin funcionar por tres años aproximadamente.

En ese momento, se sustituyeron algunas piezas importantes, con el fin por supuesto, de que luego de instalado el nuevo motor, el carro tuviera un funcionamiento óptimo. En mi país (Venezuela), la gasolina suministrada en las estaciones de servicio, no es la de mejor calidad, a consecuencia de los múltiples problemas que en este aspecto, se presentan en el país desde los últimos años.

Es por esto, que este tipo de componente, suele dañarse con el paso del tiempo y los factores como el que acabo de nombrar, teniendo que ser sustituidos para asegurar el buen funcionamiento del carro.

We bought the spare part (fuel pump) and the cost was 15$. The mechanic we trusted was going to charge us $20 for the labor, but we were lucky enough that my mother's husband, who lives in the countryside and is also a mechanic, happened to be visiting our house. So, the work was going to be free of charge, besides being guaranteed because he is someone we trust completely.

Last Saturday, my mother and her husband came to visit our house and of course, we agreed in advance to change the fuel pump for that date. The Getz has this part located in the gas tank of the vehicle, and you access it, under the rear seat. The seat is lifted and it is visible there. The mechanic unscrewed it and took it out.

It is worth noting that I visualized the whole procedure because, although I am not a mechanic and of course, I will not do this type of work, I have always been curious to see how it is done, to be instructed to be aware and of course, for general culture. After removing the screws that secure the part where the pump goes, he removed it and disassembled the internal parts to replace the part.

At first, after removing the external screws, the part seemed a bit stuck and it was hard to get it out with its base. The mechanic said that maybe it was the way the previous pump was fitted, but without so much effort, he finally managed to get it out to proceed to replace the part.

When the previous pump was removed, the replacement was simply made in the corresponding place and adjusted well. Then a filter that comes with the new part was placed, which serves to capture impurities or dirt that is in the gas tank before it flows into the system to the injectors. This part comes with a new filter that the mechanic put on it before finishing the reassembly and putting it back in its place in the vehicle.

Compramos el repuesto (bomba de combustible) y el costo fue de 15$. El mecánico de confianza, iba a cobrarnos 20$ por la mano de obra, pero, tuvimos la suerte de que casualmente venía de visita a nuestra casa, el esposo de mi madre que vive en el campo y es mecánico también. Así que, el trabajo, obviamente nos iba a resultar sin costo alguno, además de ser garantizado pues, es alguien de nuestra entera confianza.

El pasado sábado, mi madre y su esposo vinieron de visita a nuestra casa y por supuesto, con antelación acordamos el cambio de la bomba de combustible para esa fecha. El Getz tiene ubicada esta pieza en el tanque de gasolina del vehículo, y se accesa a ella, por debajo del asiento trasero. Se levanta el asiento y allí se visualiza. El mecánico la desatornillo y la sacó.

Vale la pena acotar, que visualicé todo el procedimiento pues, aunque no soy mecánica y por supuesto, no haré este tipo de trabajo, siempre me ha dado curiosidad ver cómo se realiza, para estar instruida al tanto y por supuesto, por cultura general. Luego de sacar los tornillos que fijan la pieza donde va la bomba, la extrajo y desarmó las partes internas para sustituir la pieza.

Al principio, luego de sacar los tornillos externos, la pieza parecía algo atorada y costó para sacarla con su base. El mecánico dijo que quizás fue la forma en que se hizo la colocación de la bomba anterior, pero sin tanto esfuerzo, al fin logró sacarla para proceder a cambiar la pieza.

Al sacar la bomba anterior, simplemente se hizo la sustitución en el sitio correspondiente y se ajustó bien. Luego se le colocó un filtro que trae la pieza nueva, el cual cumple la función de capturar las impurezas o suciedad que se encuentre en el tanque de gasolina antes de que fluya en el sistema hacia los inyectores. Esta pieza trae un filtro nuevo que el mecánico le puso antes de terminar de rearmar todo y colocarla nuevamente en su lugar en el vehículo.

After adjusting the new pump and the filter, it was placed again in the corresponding place in the car and adjusted with the screws to fix it correctly. I should note that on this occasion, the part fit perfectly without any difficulty. The screws were fixed and the procedure was complete.

Next, the mechanic asked me to turn on the car and turn it off immediately about two times, I suppose in my little knowledge of the subject, that it would be to circulate the gasoline inside the part. I must point out that at the beginning, after this, I tested the car and it felt a little unstable but as I was driving, as I went along, the engine became more and more serene.

The car, as the days went by, improved its one hundred percent performance in this matter. It is very important to prevent damage to our car, in this case, never let the gas tank go down to extreme levels because there is a risk that impurities may exceed the barrier of the filter in the pump and thus collapse the injectors, causing failures in terms of ignition and overall engine performance.

In my experience, in general, I always try not to let the level drop below a quarter tank of gasoline. In the case of my car, the tank has 40 liters of capacity and I never let it go below the last quarter tank, that is, 10 liters plus the reserve.

I must apologize for my poor knowledge of mechanical terminology and the subject. I just wanted to recreate the procedure from my point of view as a user and my experience after changing the part. Thank you for joining me in this moment of sharing this experience regarding the maintenance and repair of my vehicle.

Luego de ajustada la bomba nueva y el filtro, se colocó nuevamente en el lugar correspondiente en el carro y se ajustó con los tornillos para fijarla correctamente. Debo acotar que en esta ocasión, la pieza encajó perfectamente sin ninguna dificultad. Se fijaron los tornillos y estuvo completo el procedimiento.

Seguidamente, el mecánico me solicitó encender el carro y apagarlo enseguida alrededor de dos veces, supongo en mi poco conocimiento del tema, que sería para hacer circular la gasolina dentro de la pieza. Debo acotar que al principio, luego de esto, probé el automóvil y se sentía algo inestable pero al paso de ir circulando, sobre la marcha, se emparejó en cuanto a serenidad del motor.

El carro, al paso de los días, mejoró en un cien por ciento su funcionamiento respecto a este tema. Es muy importante prevenir los daños de nuestro automóvil, en este caso, nunca dejar que el tanque de gasolina baje a niveles extremos pues, se corre el riesgo, de que impurezas puedan rebasar la barrera del filtro en la bomba y colapsar de esta forma los inyectores, causando fallas en cuanto al encendido y funcionamiento general del motor.

En mi experiencia, por lo general, siempre trato de que no baje el nivel más allá de un cuarto de tanque de gasolina. En el caso de mi carro, el tanque tiene 40 litros de capacidad y nunca dejo que baje más allá del último cuarto de tanque, o sea, 10 litros más la reserva.

Debo disculparme por mí escaso manejo en cuanto a la terminología mecánica y el tema. Tan solo quise recrear el procedimiento desde mi óptica como usuaria y mi experiencia luego del cambio de la pieza.
