You know we're finally coming out of lock down and things are returning to normal when the good ol car show returns to our community and what a beautiful event it was. I have to admit the past four years have been quite silent and I miss the sound of an old dirty V8. The kind that are still running a carby.
When they roar your ears don't just hear it but you feel them deep inside your chest. Similar to a cats purrr or more so the roar of a Lion.
There's something about these new V8s that don't just cut it, the direct fuel ejection robs us of that Pur but I know there are more kWs delivered to the rear wheels and newer cars are faster today than back then. But they just don't cut it.
All cylinders were firing during this weekend car meet with plenty of activity and celebrations all around. A live band took centre stage providing much needed income for struggling artists coming out of COVID struggles.
There's been plenty of complaints that the city is dead but not here in the suburbs it's as if a new way of living has emerged from lockdowns. Still the busy commute as many are made to return to the CBD.
But not all, this shift has enabled more cash to be spent locally so we end up with better events closer to home more tailored to the community we reside in. A better model if you ask me.
Tucked away just out of reach from touch but held dear by their owners were a number of cars spanning generations some newer mustangs but let's be honest we didn't come here to see a 2020 mustang it's the cars of the past.
I have to admit I was amazed when I saw a VN SS as a prized car, it was a car I once owned and cheaply too. Built in the 80s it was a beast and still is. I'd describe it as a car made of old born in the new age of tech but not too much. The last loud beast and putting group Q throttle bodies on it made it illegal and had it banned from the streets as it was too powerful.
My favourite was the VH SLE tucked away, bearly noticed this bad boy was also creme de la creme in its hey day. I had a friend that had one and for a moment I wondered if it was his. But I couldn't see the owner around.
I had many a fond memories with him as we'd cruise around town, head out to night clubs and just explore our teenage freedom and early 20s.
It was the first time my son had heard the roar of such engines and I could tell just by his reaction he was hooked. He turned and started smiling car! Car! Car!. Little Miss wasn't too impressed and thought it was too loud lol oh after her mother she takes.
Even a Disney character made an appearance although, I don't know who it is but my wife mentioned it and my daughter knew and it was a show stealer for many of the kids who attended all wanting a picture with the car.
It was a wonderful event and the night ended with a beautiful fireworks display signalling the end of an era of COVID and the return of normality.
Fantastic closure and celebration of new things to come.
