I want to extend the life of my engine with an oil change

Those with mechanical knowledge know that the vast majority of vehicle failures are due to lack of maintenance. Ordinary users do not always take this into account and often overlook simple but vital details, such as changing the oil at the right time. As with the engine, there are other fluids that need to be replaced over time. Although not all of us are mechanics, it is essential to consult the owner's manual to determine the appropriate time interval or mileage for each service. Failure to change the oil on time causes accelerated wear and tear on internal components, making it an essential activity for extending the life of the engine.

In the case of my 1994 Jeep Wagoneer Limited, I use 15W40 semi-synthetic oil. When I purchased the vehicle, the previous owners used mineral oil, but I decided to switch to semi-synthetic because it offers better protection and greater durability in the high temperatures reached by the engine. I had planned to change the oil at 7,000 km; however, due to a trip I am taking away from home, I realized that I was already approaching 9,000 km. Although the excess was not drastic, I was alarmed and decided to act immediately. It is not advisable to wait for the lubricant to deteriorate completely.

Taking advantage of a relative's workshop, I carried out the procedure myself. I removed the oil pan plug and the old oil filter, waited a few minutes for the old oil to drain completely and the engine to cool down a little, then installed a new filter and proceeded to pour the oil through the valve cover. I used Valvoline 15W40 semi-synthetic oil, a well-known brand recommended by friends. I poured in the exact 5.7 liters specified in the owner's manual to reach the optimal level.

Performing this maintenance has given me a lot of peace of mind. Since I travel frequently and cover long distances, I know that my engine is protected and will not suffer unnecessary damage. My recommendation to everyone is not to skimp on maintenance or oil quality. The life of your engine depends on it, and it will save you major repair costs in the future.
