Random.. yes..
Here in the glorious island of the UK.. it's finally.. (for like a few seconds) nice enough to get some work done on our car.
The car has been losing power for quite a while now, it's about 150k miles on the clock and it's not be serviced in.. well a good while due to weather and actually having a time and place to do the work.
Anyways.. My dad was doing work on the car, I fetch tools and made cups of tea, which is a very important job!
We was investigating why the cars computer was complaining about low boost and issues with boost, We thought the turbo was going bad because there is a ton of oil coming from somewhere.
So yeah, We managed to get to the turbo which is oh so conviniently tucked away at the back of the engine in an impossible to reach place. From what we can tell, the oil is NOT coming from the turbo, good news we don't need a new turbo.. also the turbine in the turbo is rock solid (as in no play or give) which is extra nice. So that saves a good £350 on a new turbo..
The DOWNSIDE is.. that is oil is actually likely coming from the intake manifold.. which mean's it's coming past the piston rings or something along those lines. That's bad cause it basically means then engine as a whole is on the way out.
That stuff is waaaay to expensive to get fixed.. But that is if that is actually then issue, We're considering getting a compression test done on the engine to see what can be done.
Car is in bits at the moment, We have all the turbo pipes off and stuff. We changed the fuel filter which was some 2-3 years overdue.
That alone will probably help with power a bit or at least make the engine run smoother.
We plan on cleaning the throttle body as it's really caked up and we're also considering replacing the intercooler or at least cleaning it out as it's likely very clogged up with oil.
Hopefully this makes the car run decently for another year or two. It's due a clutch, timing belt, aux belt, needs new engine mounts, needs replacement shocks on the front (we have them just need to fit them) Brakes need a service, wheels need fixing. It's got what seems like a dodgy injector but that cause just be the old fuel filter cause issue.
oh and the aircon is buggered...
The list goes on and on. You'd think buying a new car would be the best idea. Only issue is it's £7000 to get something even compareable to what we have now. (a top spec mazda 5)
We're gonna try squeeze every last bit out of the car without spending a fortune on fixing it.
On a side note... I really need to start taking picture of litterally everything I do. otherwise we end up with post like this.. XD
I'll try get some for a follow up post on the cleaning and intercooler stuff etc.
