More than 3,500 people died in Turkey and Syria with a magnitude of 7.8 earthquake, many more people were injured, many are still missing, and the affected areas were devastated by the loss of life and building collapse.
Winter blizzards are hampering rescue efforts, with many roads covered in snow, but search and rescue operations continue in several quake-hit towns.
In order to minimize the damage caused by earthquakes, there is a need to raise public awareness, and the government has to play the main responsibility in this regard, so that the potential damages are kept to a minimum level.
