Good day everyone. Many of us, especially people who are self-employed and are into creative works such as content creation, mostly feel this way sometimes. They wake up and try to work, but don't work and feel so sad and at the end of the day, they feel so unproductive and the vicious cycle continues. But why do you feel so unproductive and most times blame yourself that you are lazy for your lack of productivity. Why? Kindly stick around to find out.

This mostly happens when people are facing mental crisis or age crisis like 30s, 40s and even 20s crisis. The world as we know it has evolved to that extent, that people who are in their 20s like myself included, are having crisis, because of what we expect from ourselves or what society expect from us. Social media is the root cause of all these, we see people doing so well at early ages, that we push ourselves to the extreme to achieve it too. But the reality is that, there are so many factors to why some people make it so early, such as their family background, their environment, their relations, and other factors, not only due to hard work.
When the pressure gets to some people, they usually don't know it has gotten to them. They work as they normally do, but don't feel that spark anymore and when they try to work, they don't want to. They are most times suffering from depression and they don't just know it. They are not happy with what they have gotten/achieved, they feel they deserve more and just a little setback, they would turn off their desire to continue to work without knowing it. This is a vicious cycle that most people find themselves in. They are so focused on their work and don't play attention to their emotions and feelings. They just want to get their task done, but with time, their body with shut down, because of the emotions they are holding inside of them and that would reduce their zeal to do anything and they would think that it is because of they are lazy. No, it's not laziness, it's their emotions telling them to take care of their mental state.

I'm just recently overcoming mine. I normally like to write, I can't go a day without writing. I was living an okay life, I got my own apartment, it's well furnished to an extent but I wanted more. I wanted to travel the world and live the luxurious lifestyle. Funny enough, among my mates, I'm doing great, most still live with someone because they can't afford to pay rent but I wasn't looking at their live and be grateful for what I got. I was thinking of more. I had a little setback and boom!!! My work rate completely stopped for months. I couldn't sit down on my chair to write a sentence, that was how bad it was. I blamed myself for been lazy but why should I? Wasn't I hardworking before then? I was, then why all of a sudden, I'm lazy and don't want to do anything productive anymore. Funny enough, I didn't know I was suffering inside, because I went on thinking I was fine but the truth, I wasn't.
I would wake up and stay on Youtube, watch movies, sleep and start again. I spent all savings, I was in a dark place but I didn't know back then. I blamed my behaviors for my laziness and lack of productivity. I was waking up to late, I was doing this wrongly and that badly. I went on to research on how to be productive, but sadly none worked because I was depressed and I needed to know, before I can heal myself and get back to working adequately.
We are all going to go through this stage or have gone through this stage, because we are humans and we seek happiness. This is just nature and how things work. That's why you see some football players or athletes would very good for some months, but play very terribly now. Why? Their emotions have caught up with them and they are going through a lot. This happens to the very best of people, so don't feel like you are alone, you are not. Movie stars, go to rehab, same as musicians, just to get themselves back. That's why you notice that therapist are having more clients. In big organization, they have a therapist department, that talk to workers that have dropped in their level of productivity. Human emotions always catch up to us, regardless if we want it or not, so it is very important we pay attention to our emotions for us to be more productive.

The best way, I think to overcoming this kind of issue, is to take some time to care for yourself. Don't think about work, because that's where most of us, miss it. We always think about work, and still end up not doing it, and get very sad and the vicious cycle continues. Just stay away from work. Appreciate your life and what you have achieved so far. Know that everyone got their time and do well to stay off social media for sometime. After sometime of self care, start to work everyday no matter how little. This is very crucial. You have to build a momentum and don't make it stop. Do something related to your work, no matter how little. Those little wins, will start to uplift your spirit and emotions, before you know it, you are back. But you have to know, it's normal for you to feel sad and bad sometimes, we are only humans.
