Traveling off the beaten path sometimes brings the most unexpected discoveries.
About ten years ago, while driving through northern Greece, my wife and I stumbled upon lavender fields near the town of Kastoria — completely by chance.
It felt like more than just a coincidence: for years, we had dreamed of seeing the famous lavender fields of Provence, but somehow it never worked out. And then — there it was, right in front of us. In a different country, under a different light, yet with the same deep purple hue and a warm, rich fragrance that seemed to fill the air.
To us, it was a gift.
We never did make it to France. But every now and then we find ourselves going back to those photos, remembering how we wandered between the rows — me taking photos, my wife catching the scent on the breeze.
Sometimes a dream comes true somewhere you least expect it.
And there’s a special kind of beauty in that.
