I've created enough content on the HIVE platform now that I am increasingly coming up with a dilemma: figuring out where to post certain types of content. There are a large number of communities which provide a great place to post varying types of content, but there are also some missing. Although adding tags/topics should help some, I feel that sometimes good content has nowhere to "live" and therefore doesn't receive the nurture and support it deserves. When I come across this issue, I'm left with a few options, but I'm not sure if any of them are the best method, or maybe there is another way.
Let's provide an example: fitness.
Let's say I've been utilizing a new workout regime for a few months and wanted to share information about it. I create a post that includes the regime, my experiences with it, results, and resources for others to use who want to try it out. The post is pretty long but includes very helpful information that many interested readers would value. However, I have no idea where to post the content so that it can be read by interested people. There appears to be no main fitness related community, the closest one is probably actifit, but that's not really the right place for a post like this. Including the fitness tag may help, but my personal experience with tags is that you don't see posts that include them unless you manually search for the tag itself. Finally there's feeds, but that only helps with your existing followers.
If we compare these options with the flow for existing communities we can see the issues.
Let's provide an example: photography.
Let's say I just took a retreat to a very secluded region of another country, and have hiked deep into nature to find a beautiful waterfall that has been untouched by civilization. I take my camera and take a stunning photo, one that is honestly worth a thousand words. Anyone who sees this photo will be amazed and enjoy its beauty, so I add it to a post and describe my experience. Thankfully, a great community exists for this type of post: photography lovers. We can see when viewing the community that it has great user interaction and that even posts without a good follower base get good interaction. This is because users who follow communities receives feeds from them, which includes all/new posts from the community itself. Now that there is a community that the content fits into, there is an existing audience whom my post is presented to, and whom therefore get to experience my photo as intended.
I don't know the solution to the issue, but I do have personal experience with it, and I think others such as have as well.
My call to action is a request from you for advice on the issue, where do you put your content that doesn't have a good community to call home?
I think HIVE is an amazing platform for creating, and I think there are a number of great front-ends to use as well, but I feel there is a need for an improvement of the discovery and organization of content. Please provide feedback and your own experiences!
