Namaste,
First of thank you so much for bringing out the enthusiasm for writing and expressing things to this platform and I'm very grateful for everything so far.
I'm here today to discuss something which got me thinking as if I'm in the right space or not. Initially, would love to bring some light on the fact that my birthplace is rigid and does not believe in LGBTQ and consider homosexuality as a spirit possession.
I'll give sometime to laugh it off, no offense I do laugh on their belief once in a while.
Not just homosexuality, alot of their other beliefs made me switch location and shift to a city which is in general a very liberal area.
As I've previously mentioned in other post, I live in India; developing country and we the people are also developing. Earlier we did not actually believed in LGBTQ but with time we definitely are growing and learning more about humans mentality and their sexual preferences.
The first PRIDE 🌈 March held in india in the year 1999 in Kolkata, the same year which I was born, still it took 20 years for me to know something about this topic.
September 2022, I visited outlet of a very renowned Indian clothing brand with my friend, who by the way is homosexual; women by birth and man by orientation.
So we went to men's section to look for some clothes for him/her. We dig for around an hour and selected some t-shirts and jeans to try on. After that my friend went into the trial room and I waited for her on the gate, suddenly out of nowhere a employee of that outlet ran towards us screaming "she can't go to the men's trail room as she is a women". People started staring as us as he was talking in a high pitch. My friend got furious and upset and we immediately left the store.
After coming back I researched about this and realized my city doesn't have a single trail room or washroom for third gender also the fact that government is working alot in this section and is trying to mandate other gender/prefer not to say gender washroom's in government offices but it saddened me that commercial places those who can help in change alot quicker are not contributing to this. Alot of metropolitan cities have these option but not a single commercial outlet have this option in my city.
According to me I think, either we should not say anything on anyone using washroom or trail room for any gender and normalize this concept or we should work proactively into this situation and make third gender washroom and trail room mandatory for every public place.
