We took off for the South Australia countryside today, making the four hour driver from the Adelaide area to the seaside town of Robe. The coastal drive brought back memories of just why traveling around this country is such a pleasure.
Let's start with lattes and cappuccinos. I've yet to stop in a pub or petrol station that doesn't make a decent one. And by decent, I mean better than many American coffee houses. The coffee is flavorful and smooth, and the milk or foam creamy and lush. Such a treat!
Then there's toilet access, and the National Toilet Map app. You heard right. The navigation app will guide you to the nearest locations anywhere in the country. In this case, I was directed to a local park, and the round structure affectionately known as the concrete crappa. They, like most roadways and parklands, are trash free and well kept. People are expected to haul away their trash from public spaces, and not to litter. Much appreciated.
We also made a rest stop at a pink salt lake along the road. Because it's there. And pink. Yup.
Lastly, we arrived at our friend's place in time for greetings and a round of golf before dinner. The courses I've played are all inexpensive (<$20US), well-kept, and often empty enough to walk up, put your money in the box, and play. Honestly, I'm glad I don't live here, because golf is almost too cheap and accessible.
