During my cycle tour today I came across this restaurant. Now I have passed this one by quite a few times before. And today I realized that I read this in my mind in English. Every time again. So, what is so odd about that?
Well, I live in the municipality of Oldambt. That is in the North-East of the province of Groningen. Which is part of Netherland.
Also the association that I have with that name is that something can be done the 'old school' way. As a matter of fact though it is an old school building.
The use of the word 'old' is odd, as in the native tongue of the Oldambt region it is used as 'oal' or 'ol'. Like in 'Ye oal barn'. Even in the neighboring German region of Lower Saxony it is used as 'ol'.
It is kind of an oddity, or our region is slowly being taken over secretly by the Sassenachs... 🤔
