National Park Samarskaya Luka - tunnels of Mount Camel. Long ago, at the end of the 18th century, limestone was mined here. The limestone of this mountain range is considered the cleanest in the region, so it was actively mined here. In those days, stones were simply beaten off by hand. But over time, mining methods have changed. We gradually switched to explosives. A hole was drilled in the stone, about a meter deep, explosives were placed there and detonated. In some places in these adits, similar wells can still be found.
In the 30s and 40s, prisoners were involved in the development. After the Great Patriotic War, prisoners of war were also sent here. Mining ceased in 65.
Now the only inhabitants of the abandoned adits are bats and curious tourists.
