Hi all š
I want to share with you all my next post here in the community and my exploration from this abandoned Castle up a hill in Spain šŖšø But is it a castle? or something elseā¦
We went there last Sunday 12 June 2022, and it turned out to be a rather āpopular spotā to explore.
All photographs are taken with my iPhone.
I took over 200 photos as it had 4 floors and another level up, but I reduced it to the ones in this post. š
Letās join our exploration š and enjoy the finds and views⦠𤩠walk our steps! But first some information.
This castle is located in AlhaurĆn el Grande, Spain up in the country side.
Castillo de La Mota, Google maps says itās name is.
Location on Google maps is the yellow star āļø:
Zoomed inā¦
A walking trail around it you find here In this website!and it gives us a bit more information.
It states:
āThe Castillo de la Mota was built as a water tower, disguised as an ancient castle to fit in with the regionās surroundings.
It was constructed to provide irrigation water for a golf course that never happened.ā
Another website You can find here in Spanish.
States:
āIt would have been part of an residencial area of the golf course, and their sales office would have been located there in the future. And a warehouse for ⦠?
It even mentioned medieval legends. But being build only in the beginning of the ā90s⦠many stories are found about this castleā
So who knows what was true, a castle, a sales office, ware house or water tower⦠I couldnāt see any of that inside. š¤
We parked the car on the foot of the hill and decided to walk up to have some exercise š
The gate is open and you can drive through to just behind the castle if you wish too.
Half way up⦠we see the castle slowly appearing.
Standing on the parking area we see the Castle in its full glory. Note next to us are about 3 other cars parked. One, people are sitting in. The 2 others are empty. So we think people are inside. We go further with this knowledge.
It turns out it isnāt an old castle, but only build in the beginning of the ā90s.
Wow it looks amazing⦠this will be fun. š¤©
Look, how inviting this iron large gate is⦠well thank you. Of course we come in šš
We see the staircase in this ground floor level and decide to go up one floor.
Sorry for the bad graffiti around us, so please ignore. There are better ones later on š¤
The bare staircase up.
And it continues further up.
I look down half way this flight of stairs. No railings anywhere, so be careful and watch your steps. It is crumbling here and there. Entrance gate bottom right.
We arrive on a very large first floor.
Beautiful arches and stonework in between normal stone walls and floors.
Some windows do have gates, most donāt. I wouldnāt recommend leaning against the iron balustrade.
Looking around the room.
So much little areas to see⦠I wander around.
A larger mural but tagged.
A little room that goes of the large room. Look at the windows.
The wooden roof above this room.
It looks still in pretty good shape, for being exposed to the weathers for a while.
I so get the feeling, nobody ever lived in it and had not finished building it. To much of the construction still to see.
Another mural but tagged again.
View turning around.
More corners with graffiti.
We walk into the room and look back and up. More floors to see.
While being back here, a couple walks past and leaves the castle. They came from the roof terrace⦠it looked like they were catching some sun up there ššš hehehe as they were still getting dressed.
The larger room view.
A great work caught my eye. I know this style and artist but canāt remember who it was. No name visual.
Details on the outside looking in an open area.
One floor up again, level 2.
Who is that person? Nope, I donāt know her šš she isnāt just takingā¦.

ā¦this photograph hehehe š¤£š
View towards the staircase. Letās go up one more floor #3 come along with us š
We see some iron gates before a few windows with views towards the parking lot. Aha the other 2 cars have leftā¦
A room or even an outside terrace with a roof. The pillars are beautiful but damaged.
Details of them.
This area is even more damaged.
As we look around we notice the wooden roof from the level below. Letās check it out here.
Great construction and views.
As we turn around we see more graffiti, itās really everywhere in this castle.
This lettering is pretty cool.
Letās go up floor number 4.
We see part of the rooms are still insideā¦
Rather large up here again.
The light in here is great and the views out. But I show you the surroundings in a little bit š
Do be careful for the elevator shaft⦠it is open on every floor. As Iām afraid of heights, I was stretching here to get the photo down. I never looked hahaha š¤£
A beautiful cornerā¦
Looking around, the stair case we came up and the outside terrace⦠so 1/4 of this floor is outside
View next to us.
And out of one window viewā¦
Stepping outside on the roof terrace, still floor 4. We see:
Looking behind us there are stairs up higher but to far from the floor level for me to jump or even climb up. Letās not do that in the heat of the day š„µ 31 degrees Celsius at the moment.
View on the side to the room with the windows/pillars.
The roof terrace.
View on top of that A frame wooden roof.
Let me show you the surroundings now š„° as they truly are stunning from all the way up here š¤©
The road we came from, as we drove through the campo/ inland to get here.
Another direction.
Stunning right.
We see here the last level - floor 5 of this castle. The one we couldnāt reach. It is a pretty tower.
The parking lot side view. We see the couple is leaving that past us by.
The countryside of AlhaurĆn El Grande and its pretty country houses spread all over.
Letās go inside again⦠and walk down. On our way out I notice areas I havenāt explored yet. So I go there.
This is a larger view of the graffiti I recognised.
Behind it this little cute room. Love the windows. But here is the architect in me speaking ššš¤
Looking down the stairs.
And next to me, a different angle.
Walking down further I notice this sticker now, I didnāt beforeā¦.
A window in the staircase.
All the way down to the ground floor there is a room hidden in the back.
The so inviting gate at the door from the inside š
Looking up⦠the ceiling is truly high up here. Remember we climbed up 2 staircases to reach floor level 1.
Let me show you around outside the castle now. Next to the gate:
As we walk around the building we see⦠so much details. Have a look.
The iron balustrade all the way up there.
Looking right up⦠it is rather dazzling the height of this castle.
Further around. See the A frame roof.
A little further⦠they wanted to integrate so much details on the outside wallā¦
The large room upstairs. Look a cross in the wall.
We reach now the official FRONT DOOR.
Blocked of with big rocks.
The height of this door is enormous. Not the standard door.
We walked around now and see the entrance gate.
The path down to the parking area. All empty now. We are alone.
As we are leaving a new car arrives with a couple, they get out and go to explore the castle⦠see it is rather a popular place š
View up. Beautiful š¤©
One more from the parking.
Walking the road down we see another small building. Also empty⦠nothing there just graffiti.
Along the road.
Through the gate and back at the carā¦
Looking up, you can see a little of the castle from the main road.
Such a shame that it wasnāt finished building, and now just sits there, empty⦠but a great place to wander through and explore the levels. I do wonder how long it will be reachable.
My last exploration from last week you find here: Letās explore an abandoned sports complex⦠in Spain šŖšø
