I wasn’t sure if I was even going to post this one. After a long hard day of Urbex, ‘The Squatter’s House’ was our last call.
It was getting late, 'home' was a good 50-mile drive and the weariness was setting in.
I know has already done this one and better than what you are about to read here, and I was quite dismayed to note I missed some things he didn’t.
I do however have a reason, as well as being knackered and in a ‘can’t be arsed’ state of mind.
This detached property is in a shitty suburb of a nearby large city and surrounded by terraced houses of dubious quality.
Getting inside was a matter of walking in the wide open front door and into the hallway. I noted the chandeliers attached to the ceiling that had not yet been swung on and destroyed.
Bad wallpaper and more chandeliers were to be seen within the downstairs rooms.
The walls could use a scrub, and looking into the kitchen area I could see the exit was about as secure as the entrance.
Now I know it was the wind but the constant banging door coming from upstairs was disconcerting and making both of us jumpy.
I made my way up and spotted the culprit of a door incessantly opening and closing.
Peeking around the corner revealed this messy looking tent. Was there anyone lurking in the far bathroom?
We were getting a little edgy and both had our suspicions that someone was hiding behind the door with a great axe waiting to decapitate us.
Backing off and hoping that the owner of the tent was either (a) not there or (b) just waiting for those bastard intruders to leave, we checked the back room which could once have been someone’s office.
The chair may collapse if you sit on it, but what was all that stuff in the corner?
It could almost be described as 'neat'.
I could not say the same about the state of the floor, and is that a complete pair of shoes with laces?
There is no doubt the homeless either live here or have lived here.
We made our way down the stairs, out of the front door, and checked the back of the property.
There was much more to this than the house but we couldn’t be arsed to climb through the window that is standing at the entrance too.
This is why; it looks like there's a pile of crap inside and nothing else.
Security never turned up, though they will do according to this sign.
I have my regrets about not exploring the outhouses properly as I know there were more things to see inside.
As 'The Squatter's House' is not particularly close to where I live, I won't be going back.
