As an anime fan, getting the chance to check out a pop-up event featuring multiple popular series like Jujutsu Kaisen, My Hero Academia, Haikyuu!!, Kaiju No. 8, and Solo Leveling all in one place is honestly super convenient. So when my friend told me about this event, I picked a free afternoon and went to check it out again.
The most popular spots there were definitely the themed photo walls and the interactive mini games. There were always long lines for the games, but I’m not really into that kind of thing. I’m way more into the photo setups. They usually recreate iconic scenes from the anime, which feels really fresh and exciting. For example, the setup for Alya Sometimes Hides Her Feelings in Russian had a Christmas theme, and Alya herself was inside a giant gift box. It really gave off a festive vibe.
I also noticed two series I’d never heard of before: Link Click and Heaven Official's Blessing. After I got home, I looked them up and found out they’re actually Chinese animations. Link Click is especially interesting because it’s a collaboration between China, Japan, and Korea. Events like this used to mostly feature Japanese anime, but now they’re getting more diverse. Good content really isn’t limited by country. I’ve even noticed at book fairs that Thailand has a pretty solid animation scene too. It’s just that we don’t really get those works officially published here.
Another thing I noticed is that a lot of people love collecting official photo cards at these events. You can usually get them from anime stores, pop-up shops, or even as freebies in magazines. It reminded me of when I was younger. I used to collect those cards too. I have no idea where they ended up now, but they’re still a really nice memory.
