The cultural park was pretty crowded that afternoon. People were constantly coming and going, like couples on dates, families with kids, and people like me just wandering around alone. There were also lots of creative brands and pop-up shops inside the park, selling stylish daily goods and handmade accessories, so those stores were packed too. Compared to the other areas, though, the exhibition section for the Century Forestry Special Exhibition had way fewer visitors. I guess the topic felt too serious, so younger people probably weren’t interested, while older people rarely come to places like this. That made the exhibition neither popular nor well-received. Honestly, I think the reason it exists is mainly to spread some positive values.
Ever since elementary school, through extracurricular books and later studies, I’ve known that Taiwan is truly an “island of mountains.” About 70% of the island is made up of mountains and hills, with over 250 peaks higher than 3,000 meters above sea level. That’s why many mountain climbers from around the world come here to fulfill their dreams. These towering mountains and constantly changing climates also created Taiwan’s rich forest ecosystem. During the Japanese colonial era, Taiwan’s forestry industry became an important economic resource for the Japanese Empire, and huge amounts of high-quality timber were shipped to Japan. Under industrialized forestry policies, the original forests suffered major damage. Later on, restoration projects began, hoping to transform low-productivity artificial forests into stable natural forests with rich biodiversity.
To be honest, the exhibition itself wasn’t very interesting or trendy. The content felt pretty stiff and serious. Still, the air conditioning inside was nice and cool, so I ended up staying in a corner of the exhibition area just playing with the stamp station. A little girl nearby saw me doing it and started playing too. A lot of museums and exhibitions now have stamp collection activities, turning abstract themes into something more memorable and interactive for visitors. A few years ago, when NFTs were booming, many stamp collection events even turned into NFT collecting activities. I collected a few NFTs back then, but now I don’t even know where they went. Maybe those NFT platforms don’t even exist anymore. Truly, “one day in crypto feels like ten years in the real world”.
