On the subway during the morning rush hour, I came across a news report – "15 warplanes, 10 missiles: Israel launches airstrikes on Doha, Qatar".
Immediately, the phrase "Head covered with a cloth, the richest in the world" – a playful yet vivid saying – popped into my mind. In my perception, this city, built with wealth and craftsmanship, had always seemed far removed from words like "missiles" and "airstrikes" that carry the stench of gunsmoke.
But war cares nothing for who you are or how much wealth you have. In just seconds, buildings crumble. The steel and concrete that took countless days and nights to pour, the intricate details that were carefully crafted during decoration – all are defenceless against heavy weapons.
The cruelty of modern war is not just words in a textbook, but the stark reality that "war can break out in an instant": a building can disappear in seconds, and a city’s sense of security can collapse in the blink of an eye. We always take peace for granted as the norm, yet we forget it is the most precious and fragile thing – an everyday life barely sustained by the patience, mediation and protection of countless people.
May the homes of all ordinary people be free from the fear of "collapsing in seconds", and keep the sense of security that rightfully belongs to them.
