I've seen vivid images of the Hohenzollern Castle surrounded by lush green trees against a blue sky, and as I approached it on a misty winter morning, it was a different sight.
Today, I'm sharing some less-than-vivid shots of the castle and its surroundings, inspired by PhotoFeed's Theme Contest - Winter Photography.
That morning, it was snowing. Initially, there was dense fog, adding to the atmosphere's uniqueness. The sky was getting clear later in the afternoon after we toured the castle. It remained gloomy, as you can see from the last few castle photos, and it turned duller without the shrouding fog.
It was freezing cold (looks obvious huh?), so I was wearing my ski pants and thickest jacket... I felt like a clumsy shivering bear, ;) but that didn't stop me from moving around excitingly to capture these breathtaking scenes.
Now a bit of background info about the castle:
Hohenzollern Castle is perched on top of Mount Hohenzollern in the Swabian Alps, in Baden-Württemberg of Germany.
It was built between 1846 and 1867 as a family memorial, based on designs of the English Gothic Revival architecture and the Loire Valley châteaux. It's the ancestral seat of Prussian Kings from the imperial House of Hohenzollern.
Even today, it is still privately owned by the two branches of the House. The castle has been converted into a private museum, which draws a large number of visitors each year.
