I had many lovely walks around Arcachon Bay these days, and today I'm showing you some scenes from the Beach Pointe aux Chevaux in Petit Piquey. This is a small coastal village in the Gironde department in southwestern France.
It was last Sunday just before Halloween, so you can see some relevant decorations on local houses.
This region is known for oyster farming, and there is even an oyster museum in Gujan-Mestras, the commune where I am at the moment.
The seaside view changes a lot depending on the tide. At different times of the day, I felt like walking along a sandy beach or a muddy swamp.
The tide was quite high in the late morning:
I went there again after about 4 hours in the afternoon. As you can see from my photos below, the view was clearly different.
In comparison to the more popular and crowded spots near Arcachon, this small beach on the Cap Ferret peninsula is much quieter. Furthermore, it was not peak season for tourists, so it felt even more secluded. Walking around here in this season with the perfect temperature was really relaxing and enjoyable.
Oysters, oysters and oysters:
Also plenty of seafood cabins along the beach, and some of them firmly and proudly state that only oysters are sold:
I adore the numerous wooden structures such as windows, fences, and trellises nestled among the green trees of pine, olive, palm, bamboo, and banana...as well as the abundance of vibrant flowers and fruits in every corner, so full of life!
A friendly lady passing by told me this fruit is edible, and she picked one to demonstrate. It tasted like a cross between a strawberry and an apricot to me. My phone app identified it as a strawberry tree?
Halloween celebrations seem less popular in Europe than in North America, but there are still some decorations here:
