Great experiment :) I 'connected' a few rooms in my home through powerline adapter too. Trying to extend WiFi to the furthest rooms completely failed, so powerline adapters were next best shot since I didn't feel like drilling holes in thick concrete walls.
Yeah, it worked. But it's nowhere near the advertised speed. I'm pretty sure that it's because the power grid in the building is quite old, and some of it doesn't conform to modern standards, and I bet there's awful amount of noise and losses.
I was recently thinking about changing that to optic fibre just like you did! I was considering it because of the diameter of the optic fibre, compared to the diameter of typical cat6 cable. You know. Drilling concrete sucks :)
But that transparent optic fibre you've presented is really neat! I have to rethink cable rounting, with this it should be much easier to find a good path with less drilling. Or even none! How cool!
