As a child that grew up in Afikpo North, Ebonyi State. I really enjoyed watching the 'Eze Lugulu Masquerade' boastful displays while parading along side his associates.
The essence of this painting is to depict that royalty that encompasses the 'Eze Lugulu' masquerade and also to showcase its colourful costume and most importantly, to promote the culture of Ehugbo people and at the same time creating room for the 'Eze Lugulu' masquerade to get some recognition that the likes of 'Eyo' masquerade in Yoruba land and 'Ijele' from central Igbo land has.
The 'Eze Lugulu' masquerade is recognized by the following: a mask that has a depiction of tears rolling down its cheek which means grieve from awful past experiences faced by the society, palm fronds designed in a gown like manner and a cape to cover its shoulders, a bracelet and a shield.
The technique I used in executing this painting is called impasto:- the application of thick colours with a brush or palette knive on a surface and yes I finished up with some cool colourful doodling 🙂❣️
