today i want to celebrate an amazing and so beautiful a cultural heritage that we have in our country and also to celebrate my bossom friend for taking the bull by the horns, and deciding to make us all happy.
If you are a young person who is not yet married l know and am sure that this will inspire you to make moves, and to do the needful. The beautiful looks on their face alone can make you think of marriage even when you did not have it in mind.
Few things that makes our traditional marriage beautiful to behold and to be a part are the things l want to share now with you.
- Marriage Introduction:
This is when a man takes the bold steps to go to the bride's family with his kinsman to officially ask for her hand in marriage, on reaching the bride's family, the man will be received as a visitor and after which will be ask why and what he came for, the man will boldly tell the bride's family that he saw a damsel that was traceable to the family of whom he is interested in taking for a wife, the elders will ask for her name of which you must not make mistake and after which the elders will go for a dailog also to enquirer of their daughter if she knows this young man and will be willing to marry him, if she says yes they will come back with smiles and tell you that you are welcome and also present to him the lady he is asking for, if he say yes, that means you are good to go, so that the story of Jacob and laban in the bible story will not repeat itself.
- Presentation of the marriage rite's and items on the list:
On the return of the elders after welcoming you will present to you a comprehensive list of items that the man will have to remitt for their daughter to be given out, if the man is comfortable with the list of items, he will pay but if not there is room for effective nagociation in other to adjust the items on the list. After this is done, the man will smile and also go outside for a few minutes dailog with his kinsman, to agree on the day and date this the presentation of the items will be done.
- The remittance of the items on the marriage list:
Now on the said date as agreed by the both families, they will gather again, for the man to proof that he really interested in marring their daughter, on that day again, the man will be duly treated as their inlaw and after the presentation of items, and everyone is happy and joyous, the day for the official Marriage celebration will be fixed which the entire family members and the community will be invited to witness the Marriage celebration.
- The traditional marriage celebration:
This day is always very colorful, and full of joy, it is always done in the family compound of the bride or most times in an open place close to her family house 🏠🏠.
The entire place will be decorated with multiple colors, and friends, family of the both husband to be and bride are all present and waiting to make a loud sound of celebration for their friends.
There are two beautiful item in the celebration that l really appreciate, udia Ibenge the amazing display of assorted kind of our traditional food for the grooms family to eat and relax while they awaits the official presentation of their sons wife. Secondly the part were the man and lady will carry themselves with wine and glass to go show their both parents for their blessing.
After all this is done, the cleargy men will join them together and the entire convocation will pray for them and bless them after which they will be given an opportunity to display with the traditional dancers and finally will give a vote of thanks and the celebration ends while the parents bring their presents to the newly wedded couple.
