I have been hearing about the fuel scarcity in town for a while now. But being 'imprisoned' by the four walls of the University College Hospital, Ibadan and the stress it imposés on its had prevented me from experiencing first hand the extent of this problem. Two days ago, I had to leave UCH and go to the premises of the University of Ibadan for measurements of sports wear for an upcoming competition, as ordered by the sports council.
As soon as I exited the gates of UCH, the first thing that stood out to me was the long chain of cars and impatient car owners waiting their turn to purchase fuel-the currency the engines run on.
One would think the any sane administration would want to leave office on a good note. Do something that people can identify with their administration. But the current administration doesn't seem to give a single damn about any of this. This fuel scarcity is just one of the many marks of a failed government.
It is my sincere hope that sometime in the future, we could look back and say these times are past us. But for now, we persevere.
