If I was asked this question 5 years ago when the idea of getting married or even having a child at the time never even crossed my mind, I would gladly say I want to work a 9-5 in an oil firm, as a consultant mostly so I can get to travel the globe and work my way up the ladder..well is this dream still valid?
HELL, No
That may come as a shock, who won't want to have a job like that, especially now I have my degrees and all the right qualifications to succeed in the oil and gas sector. But now things have changed, I have changed, and my mindset about life is different. I understand the whole oil money concept, but my interest for the oil industry is just not there anymore, even if I want to try, too many connection needed to pull it off and I do not have any.
I have a child now, my child’s well being and totality are my number one priority. I want to be a present mum and at the same time be successful In my career path and if I want to stick to my old dreams, I may not be able to be achieve this. Well I could if I am deliberate about it but my heart wants something else now.
I was reading a book a review of a book Quiet by Susan Cain, it's about The Power of Introverts in a World That Can't Stop Talking, but who would have thought reading the review alone will somewhat open my eyes and mind to determine what I want to do with my life. There was something that struck me from that review, it says
pay attention to what you envy. Jealousy is an ugly emotion, but it tells the truth. You mostly envy those who have what you desire. (career-wise)
Jealousy and envy are strong words but I wouldn't mind using the word admire a lot because I believe there is a thin line between admiring and jealousy. So I made a list of women I admire what they do
Blessing Abeng - she is a branding and communications director and I admire the amazing things she is doing in the tech space.
Tomike Adeoye- I admire how she combines her career and motherhood like it's a walk in the park.
Peace itimi- knew he from school days and it's amazing how the tech space has transformed her completely. After years of working remotely, she got the Tech nation visa(a visa that allows tech talent across the world to live and work in the UK).
I still have 3 - 5 more names on my list so I could go on and on about these amazing people but the one thing they all have in common is the TECH SPACE. they are all women in tech, working onsite and remote (mostly ), crushing and killing it every day.
Then it struck me how much I would love to build a career in the tech industry, Working remotely in the tech industry gives a better life-work balance which is my number one prioritY.
After doing a lot of research about the careers in the tech industry I have decided to take up a career in Data analysis. I know there are lots of job roles and better positions in the tech space but data analysts suit me because of my love for numbers. I can already imagine the amazing things I could do as a data analyst.
Being a data analyst could become a reality someday or maybe something else in the tech space but my number one dream job is being a REMOTE WORKER.
I truly love the tech space and everything it entails but if I am going to be working in this industry it has to be REMOTE and INTERNATIONAL.just imagine working from home and earning dollars.
oops,my badas long as you are reading this that means hive already made that a reality for you🥰
I am already making moves to make this dream a reality, can't wait to get started💃
