Yeah, it finally rained for the very first time since 2022.
I've been looking forward to this because the last few weeks have been quite inconvenient due to the hot season.
Nigeria is already hot as it is and the sun doesn't show any mercy whenever it decides to make a case for itself. Normally, I spend most of each day indoors because I work remotely, but the hotness of this season still manages to find a way into my house.
When this happens, I find myself drinking an average of 8 sachet water (aka pure water) per day.
Sachet water of this nature contains 50cl of water. This means that I have been averaging 400cl of water per day. Can't complain about that. The wise ones said that water is good for the body.
The issue is that water is becoming more expensive. We've been faced with recurring inflationary pressure and it is eating deep into various industries. Within the last 5 days, the price of sachet water was increased by 25%.
Oops... I'm whining. Still the fact though.
I can pretty much deal with taking as many litres of water as possible each day for hydration sake. The hard part for me is the discomfort that comes from sweating profusely due to the hot weather.
My apartment is well ventilated with multiple windows in each room but you have to be careful when leaving the windows open at any time. The breeze that comes in during the day is usually the hot type. Not the cool breeze you would expect.
Of course, having a fan around would make a lot of difference, but inconsistent electricity supply is a big deal. When all these unfavourable conditions come up, the level of discomfort will reach its climax.
I can still recall a certain hot season during my days in Uni. I lived in a hostel then. Man, sleeping at night was so tough. At a point, I started wondering why we have to face such hot weather conditions. Did we betray our country in our previous life? Haha.
It's insane!
You can only imagine how excited I felt when it started raining last night.
I hung my earphones around my ear and listened to weird K-pop while doing some stuff online. I was so relaxed last night, I even fell asleep and had a dream. Hehe.
This first rain of the year is highly welcomed. It's almost noon but everywhere feels calm unlike how it has been for the last few weeks.
Do you believe that I've not sipped water since daybreak?
I mean, that's nothing to brag about, but it just shows how much of a difference a little drop of rainfall can make to those of us that live in this hot part of the world.
Shalom ✌️ 😂.
