Hive Open Mic - Highlights
Week 47: February 28 - March 6, 2021
Interestingly, we had 47 entries for our 47th weekly event, with the following theme: “Faith”. This theme was chosen by our community's recent "Spotlight Artist": 
I wish I could highlight every single song, because each one is wonderful to me, but that wouldn't be a true "Highlights" list. What I'm presenting here today is a selection of remarkable live music, and also acknowledging some outstanding newcomers. I hope all artists know their presence here is appreciated, even if they do not appear in this selection.
It was another tremendous turnout, with songs from five continents, making this a world-wide event. We embrace diversity, featuring a range of styles and tones, building friendships through various languages and cultures. Our community stands for global harmony. Let's have a listen.

The Spotlight
Mi Fe / My Faith (Original) by 
English: In my opinion, this song is written with great artistry, and performed with genuine grace. I hear stunning beauty in these original words, in this voice, and in the keyboard accompaniment. Feels so pure and pristine, like a swim in a clear pool, refreshing.
Sure, the video isn't as polished as some. The lighting is dim and the camera is wobbly. The keyboard is shaky. I hear automobiles buzzing by, with their loud mufflers. And all is well. This is life. Even with the imperfections, this live music performance is a precious gem to me. It is a real expression of faith.

English: This newcomer arrived in last week's Hive Open Mic, and he returns with another song that is superb. Once again his sound quality is off-the-charts awesome. I like the way his recording gives his voice so much prominence in the music mix. I feel this artist has the musical talents of a star, and I am thankful to him for sharing his gifts with us. I am inspired.

English: I like the musical talents I'm hearing here. This artist carries the song brilliantly. I like his rapid lyrics and his percussive guitar work. It is precious to me when good music is shared with the younger generations, as we can see in the end of this video.

English: Here's another newcomer, firmly expressing her faith through an a cappella vocal solo. Her words sound like the sword of Saint Michael to me, slashing, cutting away the fears, creating space for the faith.

I like the vibe of this music, even though I don't entirely understand the meaning of the lyrics. The feeling is one of inner strength, determination, and courage, yes, faith.

English: This song is hauntingly beautiful to me. The melody is very moon-like, to me, like a little light in the big dark sky. I love the storytelling in the lyrics too. I applaud this artist, working wonders with a song that is pure magic.

English: John Lennon's song, Imagine, is a brave expression of faith, in my opinion, because it is different from the dominating beliefs in certain societies. This artist carries this song in a good way, complete with the songbirds accompanying him, happy and hopeful.
For me this song is about open the mind and freeing it from some boxes.

Este artista lleva esta canción de buena manera, completa con los pájaros cantores que lo acompañan, felices y esperanzados. El silbido de @ ricardomello es la guinda del pastel, e incluso parece que los pájaros comienzan a cantar con más alegría en ese segmento de esta canción. Honro a este artista por hablar tan bien los dos idiomas, el español y el inglés, como un guerrero por la armonía global.
Para mí esta canción es acerca de abrir la mente y liberarla de algunas casillas.

Even when I listen on repeat, and look further into the words he's bringing, I am stunned by the deep meaning and resonance. He is a painter with his words, bringing the aurora borealis through his flow.

I can relate with these words, reminding me of the way my faith wavers, sometimes. I think it is OK to experience a wobble knowing and trusting that the faith will be resolved and restored when I quiet my fearful thoughts. Song by Soraya, of Colombia.

Through listening to the piano part of this popular song, I can feel the way pain and sorrow can lead a person to right mindedness, or clarity, or faith. This artist's solo piano rendition of this song is my preferred expression of this music, even though the Rock song is epic.

I feel this song is full of love and light. I enjoy the good vibration this artist gives here, through the hopeful message and the cheerful tone. I even like the part at 2:30 when some other mysterious music suddenly arrives, and somehow he stays focused and continues with his song. I love the surprises of live music. Classic.
Fe / Faith (Original) by 
English: To me, it feels as if this song was destined to be. I really feel the Spirit moving through this artist, through this original song. I like what he does here, defining what faith means to him, inspired by what is written in the Bible. It's thoughtful of him to do that for us, and artful, sharing the truth as he see it and presenting it in a musical way.

My entry this week is a song about the comfort and joy that comes from my belief in eternal life. It is an intimate song to me, because it expresses my spirituality, and it is also a lighthearted expression of faith.

Inspiration
From the talented artist who brought us "Footloose," here's an excellent song of a different flavor. I like the way this one builds energy, beginning as a Folk song with spoken word poetry, then rising into a full-band Rock 'n' Roll expression, with World music percussion. Kenny Loggins is terrific here, supported by true talents on every instrument. And the stage itself is spectacular, situated in the Grand Canyon.
Appreciation
I am grateful for the various ways this event stretches me as a music maker, generous listener, and patron of the arts. I enjoy the surprises, discovering songs that inspire me. I get the impression we're all making progress, sharing our art with the world, making steady steps toward global harmony. And our unique way of honoring artists is centered around live music. What a blast!
