Hive Open Mic Week #55~ Frustration (Original Song)

I wanted to start this post by saying a big thank you to the #hiveopenmic community. To this weekly event and the beautiful people that come together from around the world to celebrate the amazing power of collective music. I am truly honored and grateful for this.

I'd also like to show my deepest gratitude to Hive account@mipiano, Hive account@juliopalomo and Hive account@cabelindsay for bringing this wonderful community together and for their continued love and support each week with their beautiful curation efforts.

This week's theme is "Statement" and I wanted to share

a little song I have been working on since around February. This one I wrote when I was feeling angry and frustrated with the lockdown restrictions and how the UK government dealt with them. It was a confusing time. We could go out, then we couldn't, kids were going back to school, and then on the first day back they decreed that we were all confined to our houses again.

Now, I want to point out that I am not a staunch supporter of the many conspiracy theories and I do understand that many lives have been affected by the illness. However, I can't help feeling that governments and mainstream media around the world have used this as an excuse to drive fear and control over their citizens.

One of the other points I make in this song is about protests and how the media will garner its attention to what I like to call 'approved activism topics'. By this I mean that certain protests will make mainstream media, the cause will be addressed and life moves forward. But then some protests are given complete media blackout, you know the ones that show those in control for their true colors. The media cleverly crafts this and the injustices continue.

I don't want to get into too much political debate about it, and it is not my intention to offend anyone, but this song was my statement about how things felt a few months ago.

I hope that the day will come in mine or my children's lifetime where love and kindness guide the path for humanity and life will be more peaceful for all.

Frustration

Wandering lonely, don't know where to go.
Sometimes it feels as if I'm gonna lose my soul.

Conflict, injustices, my patience wearing thin oh yeah...

Freedom fighters will fight on another day,
But the only fight they let us win will take our rights.

Maybe I've been locked down too long, but it seems to me things are terribly wrong. I know we need to protect the vulnerable, but at what cost to the thinkers and young minds craving a slice of the pie that human contact used to provide?

What kind of world are we living in where our difference of opinion drives a wedge of discontent? Further burrowing itself and eating us up from the inside out.

And yes I can walk with my head held high. Try to be all peace love and light. But it's hard to remain impervious to the suffering of the many people whose rights are written off by those who dictate how free we are allowed to be.

There's only so much incense I can burn in one day and balancing of a life gone astray. My kids are slowly getting eaten up by the solitary loneliness Each day I see their sadness grow and then I realize that we are not alone.
I turn on the news, social media and it's a frenzy of conflicting opinions and ideas.

JUST STOP...
SHUT IT DOWN
We have the power to turn this around.

Is this really the best we could create with the gift of consciousness?
