Hello everyone and warm welcome to my Larry hunt for Thursday, the 30th day of October, 2023. We have just a day to say goodbye to October 2023. It has been an awesome week for Larry as he has been enjoying the best of the weather for sometime now. Although It threatened to rain in the morning as Larry took that opportunity to have a look at today in #history.
Larry begins his look at today in history from Russia. He finds out that on this day in 1961, at the Novaya Zemlya island in the Arctic Ocean, the Soviet Union detonated Tsar Bomba, the biggest nuclear weapon ever detonated and the most powerful explosion ever recorded by man.
From Russia, Larry goes to the world of boxing. He finds out that on this day in 1974, Muhammad Ali won the heavyweight boxing title again when he defeated George Foreman in the "Rumble in the Jungle." The "Rumble in the Jungle" fight was staged in Kinshasa, Zaire (now the Democratic Republic of the Congo).
From the world of boxing, Larry goes to Canada. He finds out that on this day in 1995, Quebec voters narrowly lost a referendum that advocated sovereignty for the province as part of a new economic and political relationship with the rest of Canada.
From Canada, Larry goes to the world of sports [basketball]. He finds out that on this day in 2003, LeBron James, an American basketball player who was selected straight out of high school, made his NBA debut with the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Still in the world of sports, Larry goes to football. He finds out that on this day in 1960, Diego Armando Maradona, an Argentine football (soccer) player widely regarded as the best of the 1980s and one of the greatest of all time was born in Lanus, Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Still in the world of sports, Larry finds out that on this day in 1989, Nastia Liukin, whose full name is Anastasia Valeryevna Liukin, but originally named Anastasia Valeryevna Lyukina, an American gymnast who won five medals at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, more than any other gymnast, was born in Moscow, Russia, U.S.S.R.
Finally, Larry rounds off his look at today from the world of international organization. He finds out that on this day in 1910, Henri Dunant, whose full name is Jean-Henri Dunant, Swiss humanitarian and founder of the Red Cross (now Red Cross and Red Crescent) and the World Alliance of Young Men's Christian Associations died in Heiden.
Having seen all these pieces of historical events, Larry zooms off to begin his daily deliveries.
