Hello everyone and warm welcome to my Larry hunt for thursday, the 25th day of February, 2024. Gentlemen, two of my countrymen playing for Fulham FC, Alex Iwobi and Calvin Bassey, connived to deny my darling Manchester United a draw, let alone winning at the theatre of dreams yesterday. Fulham won the game (1-2). It was their first win over Manchester United in 21yrs at Old Trafford. History was broken yesterday indeed.

Larry begins his look at today in history from the Philippines. He finds out that on this day in 1986, Philippine President Ferdinand E. Marcos fled to Hawaii under US pressure following a fraudulent electoral victory against Corazon Aquino, who succeeded him.
From the Philippines, Larry goes to Nicaragua. He finds out that on this day in 1990, in Nicaragua, incumbent President Daniel Ortega of the Sandinista National Liberation Front was defeated by Violeta Barrios de Chamorro of the National Opposition Union, which was funded by the United States.
From Nicaragua, Larry goes to the world of boxing. He finds out that on this day in 1964, Muhammad Ali, also known as Cassius Clay, won the world heavyweight championship after knocking out Sonny Liston in seven rounds.
From the world of boxing, Larry goes to Czechoslovakia He finds out that on this day in 1948, the communists took control of the Czechoslovak government.
From Czechoslovakia, Larry goes to the Vatican City. He finds out that on this day in 1870, Pius V, the pope, excommunicated Queen Elizabeth I of England from the Roman Catholic Church.
Finally, Larry rounds off his look at today in #history from Egypt. He finds out that on this day in 2020, Hosni Mubarak, an Egyptian military officer and politician who was President from October 1981 to February 2011, when popular uprising forced him to resign, died in Cairo, Egypt.
Having seen all these pieces of historical events, Larry zooms off to begin his daily deliveries.
