Ethereum commissions skyrocket due to MEV bots and memecoins.
Transaction fees on the Ethereum network had a sudden spike and doubled in just 48 hours. The culprits were MEV (maximum extractable value) bots, which take advantage of the popularity of meme cryptocurrencies to make money.
According to data from on-chain analytics firm Glassnode, on Saturday, April 15, 2,853 ETH were spent in gas fees on the Ethereum network. Three days later, on April 18, the day closed with 6,368 ETH (approximately USD 12.7 million) spent on fees.
