Solve dilemmas like mysteries, conundrums, riddles, enigmas or problems, it requires logical reasoning and rational thinking. In the TV and movie world detective business investigators Sherlock Holmes, Hercule Poirot and Father Brown regularly impress viewers with their deductive reasoning.
But in real life everyone has an innate ability to think though enigmas and problems in a step by step process.
For example, plumbers who must find the source of water leaks, builders who must determine the beam strong enough for support, the doctor who works out reasons for the illness/disease and engineers who calculate algorithms for building. Then there are the scientists ....... the list is endless.
Let us not forget parents, the most skilful of all problem solvers. They are forever figuring out children's behaviours throughout the childhood and teenage years. They constantly need to detect emotional changes, analyse why and find solutions. Just think coordinating pick up and drop offs with work commitments.
But, is it just reasoning that is called upon to work out dilemmas and conundrums?
Of course not! Every individual benefit from being blessed with the creative art of imagination, to possess the ability to think of ideas, to create, to visualise without seeing it. The art of working out the pros and cons, the problems that may crop up etc. It is always best to have a contingency plan just in case. Fore seeing or picturing what might go wrong takes a heck of lot of imagination, a talent when combined with logical thinking puts us in the cleverest of all detective bracket.
So take a bow, pat yourself on the back it is no mean feat to organise, plan and problem-solve. Never underestimate your power of reasoning and imagination even when working out the bus, train timetable or finding the quickest route with no roadworks, to get to an appointment on time.
