Excuses Excuses ..
So yeah, it’s been seven days since my last post. Wow how time flies yet again. Even with my new goals in mind when 2025 turned to 2026, and my intention to post more often, it still seems as though time is always my enemy. I try my very best to carve out minutes from hours, but once again life takes over and I’m left with little to show for it.
Now on the flip side
I have been able to carve out hours from days .. (Somehow and not sure how) To spend more time doing what I love to do, be creative. I think it’s important in an ever changing world full of chaos, uncertainty, and doubt that we set aside time to reset our minds and our creative spirit. I think I’ve been doing pretty well on that front. It’s definitely easier on the weekends than the weekdays to squeeze in creative time. I knocked out almost ten small watercolor paintings over the last couple of weeks. Putting a post together about those paintings, on the other hand, takes a lot more mental effort and focused creativity to get done. So I’ll save that for another day.
BUT .. Here's a Teaser
Water Color - Approximately 5" by 8" and currently unnamed
Orchid Update ..
For today’s post it’s going to be another orchid update. Short and sweet. Just a couple of things happening on the orchid front. First off, the Cattleya orchid that bloomed last week had another bloom forming, and that bud decided to open today. It was easy to spot this morning against the pale white blue background of the freshly fallen snow.
Yes.. I shoveled a 20 x 20' area for the dogs and they decide that it's better to do the business outside of that said area. Oh the joys of shoveling snow covered grass. It's definitely one of the things I look forward to every year… NOT and as you can see they REALLY Appreciate it. :/
Over the weekend we received a couple of inches of the cold frozen stuff. I do enjoy watching the snowfall and even enjoy the visual beauty, especially when it sticks to the plants and trees outside. However, I do not like the cold wind or bitter freezing temperatures that keep me inside more than outdoors.
I just love this color of red. This morning as I was looking it over, talking to myself and the dogs, I called it Cabernet. The shade of red almost appears wine like. I just love it and it really brightens up an otherwise colorless environment. It also brought a smile to my face as I turned the plant from side to side, examining all the little details.
As I looked over my shoulder.. To the wall that separates our family room from our breakfast area, I noticed that the first flower of many had opened on the Phalaenopsis orchids. It’s a mostly white flower, but beautiful nonetheless. I took a photograph yesterday and thought to myself that the bud would surely open within the next day or so.
They always open a lot quicker than I think they will. I was surprised to see it this morning with the bud popped and petals wide open. Again, another smile to my face. I can’t get enough of those lately.
This is the first of many flowers to come .. As all five of the Phalaenopsis orchids will bloom this go around. It looks like the others will follow suit soon. A quick update on the one orchid where I had to pull the bloom stem out of where it was emerging from the plant. As a reminder, it got stuck growing back into the leaf rather than straight out. I’m not sure why it did that, but it did. It now looks like at some point it decided that since things weren’t going as planned, it would create a new bloom stem branched off of the old one.
Kind of neat, I think. I wonder what will come of it. If you look closely, you’ll see a second little bloom stem, or what I call a mitten, further down the original stem. I’m interested to see if both of these terminal ends develop. I’ll keep you posted as always.
For now, I’m going to wrap it up and keep this one simple.
I apologize for any spelling mistakes or weird sentences above. I decided to utilize the talk to text feature on my phone, and I’m sure it screwed something up. I’ll do a quick once over, but again forgive me for any lack of formatting or proper spelling.
I checked first with Huxley and Hazel and they said they were completely fine with the lack of proper grammar.. after all they are the experts.
They both got baths this past weekend, so not sure why Huxley is looking so oily, but he does smell good.. I promise
