When my wonderful wife gave birth to our first son over 28 years ago my life changed forever. Ten years later along came our little surprise, our second son. I could not be more proud of two young men.
Father's Day has always been something that I really enjoy. It never mattered what the kids came up with. From the homemade crayon colored cards, to the cheesey "Dad" coffee cups, they were the best gifts in the world to me.
This year the boys got together and went all out for their old man. They knew my old Webber charcoal grill was falling apart and on its last leg, almost literally. They pooled their money and bought me a PitBoss grill.
I had been talking about wanting a pellet grill for sometime, but like many things, just never pulled the trigger on it. Why get a new grill when my old Webber charcoal would do the trick? At least that was my thinking. Plus, I still like charcoal cooke food as well.
So, the boys said why not go with the best of both worlds. This particular grill does pellet grilling on one side and charcoal on the other. Both sides have temp gauges, and the pellet grill side has temp controls and meat probes as well. This thing even has Bluetooth, which I will probably never use.
But what is a grill without some utensils to go with it. So the amazing wife found me a box set of grilling utensils to go with the grill. The utensils have brushes, knives, forks, tongs, and more.
It required some prep before using. I had to conduct and initial burn off to get rid of any particles on the grill. So followed the instructions that came with it, fired it up and let it burn on the pellet side for 30 minutes at 350 degrees Fahrenheit. We will use the charcoal side later on.
Tonight I plan to use the pellet grill side and make steak pin wheels with miniature potatos for dinner. There is also a tenderloin wrapped in bacon strips I plan to cook ahead for tomorrow's dinner.
Now we have everything burned off, we just wait for my youngest to get home from work and I will start grilling. I only wish the oldest and his wife could be here for the inaugural grilling.
The wife will take some pictures of the results of my grilling skills later this evening and I plan to post in a day or two. Wish me luck as I am not much of a chef.
