I wish the image above was my grass. Alas, it is not. Listen to me. Using words like alas, what an asshole. So anyway, today I finally dedicated some time to get the riding mower going. Yes, a big item on the to-do list.
It all started out really well. I mean for a night of not sleeping but maybe a total of a few minutes, it started really well honestly. Before the sun rose, I downed a few cups of coffee over some Hive posts and some other online reading. After that it was some offline reading of the local paper.
Of course no morning can get started with working outside without my handy dandy bib overalls. So stepped into those, through up the straps, and out the door I went.
Happily I swung the doors of the shed open, moved a few items from behind the riding mower. I mounted the little red machie, turned the ignition, and nothing. Battery was dead.
or I could only wish
So, now I had to take my delipidated ass and started pushing the mower out of the shed. This wasn't too difficult, but the heat was already on and the sweat started pouring.
Now that it was out of the shed it was time to find the charger and extension cord. So into the garage I went. Now remember, my lovely wife had just cleaned up my garage as a gift for Father's Day. and I love her for it. The thing is though I kind of knew where everything was in that junk pile before she did. So...
1 hour later
Drenched in sweat now, but still loving my wife, I had the charger and extension cord. I plug everything in and hooked up charger to battery. I was all set now. Just sit back and wait.
So I went inside, cooled off a bit.
1 hour later
I went outside, checked on the charger and it had thrown an error saying the battery was bad. Well, horse shit! No way, it is only about 4 years old. Doesn't anything last anymore?
So I reset everything and started the charging process over again. This time I took some time to look over hte mower deck before I started work on it. I decided it was getting to hot in the day already so I would wait to do that work until late in the evening.
So I went inside.
1 hour later
Same fucking error again! No I am pissed, but won't be defeated. Not one to give up on a piece of equipment easily, I started the charging process over, this time adjusting the connections on the charger to the battery from before, hoping that would help.
The previous mentioned process continued most of the day.
Did I mention it managed to rain in there somewhere and make it even more humid. Anyway, It finally won out, the battery is bad, and I need to get a new one. It is supposed to be some hot ones the next couple days, so the deck and other outside work may just wait. But I will pick up the new battery this weekend most likely.
My weed farm will need to be mowed again soon and the wife and son are tired of push mowing. If I can get the rider going, I can actually mow my own damn yard and feel like I am useful again and doing what I am supposed to be doing.
Git-r-dun!
Thanks for reading,
Joe
