Got the idea to do paint by numbers from and his paint by numbers posts. You should check them out. He has been doing a nice one of a night in Japan with a castle and mountain. Really neat.
Anyway, it looks like a good way to slow down and do something different. So I ordered a Military USS Battleship kit. Never done one before. Figured it was time to try.
I need something that isn't reading, studying or writing. That's most of what I do. Work toward my degree, LI posts, blog posts, commenting and other business stuff. It's all words and screens and mental effort. My brain needs a break from that sometimes.
The idea is to work on hand eye coordination while doing something completely different. Some small brushes, some paint, and tiny numbered sections. Focus without pressure, using it as a time to relax. I plan to put on some meditative music, slow down and do something with my hands that doesn't involve a keyboard or a phone.
When it's done I'm going to hang it in my office / ham shack. Battleship with some fighter and bomber planes on the wall feels right for that space. It's military themed and personal. Something I actually made instead of just bought. Kind of fits with other stuff I have around the space. Things I earned and didn't just buy somewhere you know what I mean.
If I like doing it I'll probably do more. Plenty of military themed kits out there. Could end up with a whole collection eventually. Or I could hate it and this will be the only one. Either way I'm trying something new.
Anyone else do paint by numbers? Worth the time or just frustrating? I know my wife used to do it and loved it before her hands got arthritic.
Thanks for reading,
Joe
