Today was the infamous "Black Friday" here in the US, the day when many people go into a shopping frenzy and often behave really badly, as they go in search of the best bargains on holiday gifts.
In general, I find the whole shopping obsession a little bit scary and disturbing. I've only ever ventured out of the house on the Friday after Thanksgiving twice in my adult life and both of those were trips to regular old-fashioned malls, many years ago. I just don't like such dense crowds of people, especially when so many of them are so intense.
Even before there was online shopping, I'd get most of my holiday shopping done by mail order, so I could avoid the crowds.
I guess some people consider bargain hunting to be almost like a competitive sport, which I also find a little disturbing. How does a person get that wrapped up in spending money?
I much prefer my quiet time at home, and generally am not into the huge volume of holiday expenditures some seem to subscribe to... not that I am trying to be the Grinch, or anything like that!
Even when I was a kid, our Christmas always seemed very quiet, compared to others... the big deal was food, more than gifts and other things that cost money.
After moving from Denmark to the US, I have to say that the Christmas Holiday season is much more commercial here. I don't necessarily see that as a fault, just as something I don't really relate to. And I likely never will!
Thanks for stopping by, and have a great weekend!
