A frequent "musing" came to me this afternoon, as I thought about the fact that it is now August, and it just seems like time is flying. How did it get to be August, already?
What tickled my funnybone was the odd juxtaposition of remembering parts of my childhood where the adults would complain about how "time flies" and yet? As a pre-teen, I thought they were being weird, and time atually moved extremely slowly.
Somehow, I "get it," now.
A New Month... Now What?
August was always the "birthday month" in my life. It would start with my dad on August 6th and end with my friend Linda on August 31st. My own birthday is August 30th. "Way back when" it seemed like there were more birthdays during the month of Ausgust than all other months added together.
Although I am no longer a slave to the calendar, "the beginning of a new month" always tends to inspire me to get started on new projects I have otherwise been putting off. Or I try to start a new process, or create a new habit.
Of course, it's also a good time to revisit goals and check progress. After all, it doesn't make much sense to set goals if you're not going to follow up to see how you're doing.
My personal ambition was to reach 15,000 HivePower by the end of the year, and it looks like I have a pretty good shot at succeeding.
The "Procrastination Devil"
Yes, I am a procrastinator. I suppose part of that can be attributed to being very ADHD, but much of it happens simply because I have too many distractions in my life. Meaning not that I am sitting around playing solitaire while I should be working... but that I have more "bits and pieces" on my daily to do list than I have time for, so I end up trying to clean all of those up, rather than actually getting around to dealing with my "main" projects.
Reminds me a bit of a somewhat humorous YouTube clip I watched many years ago, about a guy who had to "clean up his desk so he could do his work."
Sometimes it feels like I have spent almost me entire life in the process of "cleaning up my desk."
The Rise and Fall of Hive: Easy come - Easy go
It was certainly exciting to see our Hive token almost hit 90 cents, yesterday!
Alas, I have become a bit jaded on this whole crypto journey, and have all but given up on the idea that any of these wild sudden spikes will ever "hold." As I write these words, we are already back to 63 cents and still falling. I guess we at best can just hope for a new steady level to be a few cents above where we were, before the spike.
Cryptocurrency is definitely not for the faint of heart! But the "end of month numbers" did look artificially good! Yay!
Hive Newbies and the Sales Pitch
It always saddens me to see how many people who start up on Hive also don't end up staying with it.
Having once been a newbie who did stay with it, I sometimes wonder what gives. I remember thinking it was "too technical" when I joined, and I also remember that I had zero expectations... whatever anyone might be claiming at the time, I never thought I'd see so much as a single red cent from this project.
You could say that I had been "trained" by a long series of blogging/social ventures that ALL failed in one way or another.
In retrospect, that was definitely important... as a lot of those who leave do so because things here don't live up to their expectations. Better to not have expectations. Just enjoy the writing and creating, and try to socially engage with other users.
If you're just here for the money, that's the wrong reason to be part of this gig... just sayin'. Which is also my way of saying that those who are purely pitching Hive as "a place to make money" are really not doing anyone a service. Just my opinion.
Sorry that was a bit of a "randomly scrambled" post... but that's perhaps fitting, since my brain feels rather "randomly scrambled," today!
