How often do you have a day that ends up being absolutely nothing like you set out for it to be? And when that happens, how do you generally feel about it?
I was really hoping to get a lot of work done today... I am considerably behind on both my editing work, and on keeping up with my eBay listings. The 1st of the month has just passed, and there are bills coming due. As always, money seems to take center stage in our lives.
This Saturday also happens to be "World Labyrinth Day," and we happen to have a labyrinth in our back yard, which we happen to open to the public on this one day of the year.
I was not really planning to do any yardwork today, but it is pretty important that the labyrinth and the rest of the yard look good for the weekend... so I figured I'd go out there and at least do a little trimming and tidying up.
Of course, I only get about 20 minutes into it when Mrs. Denmarkguy comes out to join me... and to announce that we can expect pouring rain later in the day and all of tomorrow.
And so, we "pivot," as we so often do in our lives. All that work I was intending to get done goes down the toilet as I instead jam out all the work I had intended to do outside on Friday and Saturday morning.
I often mention that I sometimes don't feel like "my time is my own," and what I really mean by that is the fact that it feels like there is "always something" more pressing that comes up and replaces the work I should be doing.
I suppose we could argue that it's all a matter of setting priorities.
Priorities are interesting things, in the sense that we often think of them as being pretty clear-cut in nature when — in fact — they are actually quite fluid because our lives tend to not be static experiences. Maybe my boundaries are a bit "soft," as well... in the sense that I often see different options as being fairly equally important.
And I think that's important: When someone suggests that we "choose A or B" the implication is that there is a clear and obvious choice... but how often do we find ourselves in a situation where it's actually 49% one way and 51% another?
But getting back to my good intentions, those have been pushed out till tomorrow, because — presumably — it's going to rain all day tomorrow, meaning that I will have no time in the yard. So I should have time for what I didn't get done today.
And maybe that's all we can hope to do: Take the tradeoffs, as they come to us.
Thanks for stopping by, and have a great Friday!
