Yes, it's a leaf. It found its way into the bedroom and on to a spot on the carpet. Looking, for all the world like a turd. Early in the morning, my stomach could not contemplate closer inspection.
I mentioned it to The Husband. It could not have been feline faeces. It it were, we had a problem.
Happily he had conducted a closer inspection and was able to put my mind (and my stomach) to rest.
About my cold complaints
South Africa has a temperate climate and the days are mostly sunny. Where I live, that is mostly the case and although we have winter storms that bring wind, rain and mountain snow. It does mean that our houses are not built for cold. Rather, they are designed to better cope with heat. I know folk who have visited from colder, northern climes, and village swallows who say they are colder in our winters than they are at home. Some are from the Nordic countries. My English mother as she tucked this eight year old into bed on a winter night would often sigh,
You'd never survive in England.
My mental riposte -
Why would I want to?
Anyhow, snow is generally shortlived, melting in a day or two I suspect that there will have been more over night: we fell asleep to the sounds of wind and rain.
Pasta night
This week's pasta had to be hot and rich and warming. I made a creamy portabellini mushroom sauce with extra olive oil. To develop the mushroom flavour, the secret is a long, slow cook to release the juices.
Combined with finely chopped onion, garlic and a pinch of herbes de Provence (because I wasn't venturing into the cold for fresh herbs) it made a great, warm supper at the end what has been the coldest day, so far.
Finally
When it's cold. Princess Pearli shadows me and takes any opportunity to commandeer my lap. At bed time, she is not just on the bed, but as "on" The Cat's Mother as possible. That other cat is a cushion and is evicted, nightly. Two cats and two humans is all the bed (and the humans) can cope with.
Until next time, be well
